Barcelona Technical Secretary Txiki Begiristain: We Have To Show Arsenal Respect Over Cesc Fabregas Transfer

Txiki wants to show Gunners respect…

By Rupert Fryer
May 21, 2010 8:58:00 PM

Barcelona technical secretary Txiki Begiristain has revealed the Blaugrana don’t intend to approach Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas until the Gunners are happy to allow the club to speak to him.

"The player [Fabregas] has shown a desire to play for Barca,” Begiristain told the club's official website. “But we will not be entering into any talks until Arsenal are happy.

“Cesc has a contract with his club and we have to be respectful," he added.

Fabregas is reported to have already expressed his desire to join Barcelona in a meeting with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and looks set to become the Catalan club’s second major transfer of the summer following the arrival of Valencia striker David Villa.

Reports both in Spain and in England suggest Cesc is eager to wrap up a deal before he joins up with la Furia Roja to prepare for the World Cup next week.

Real Madrid Offer To Terminate Remaining Year Of Raul's Contract - Report

The legendary striker set to end los Merengues stay...

By Paul Madden
May 22, 2010 6:49:00 AM

Real Madrid have reportedly offered to terminate the one remaining year on Raul's contract according to AS.

The striker, who turns 33 next month, was at the Bernabeu yesterday along with his agent Gines Carvajal for a meeting with club officials to discuss his future but left afterwards without making any comment.

It has since been claimed that the club have offered to cancel the remaining year on his contract, which would allow the player to negotiate a free transfer to another club.

It is understood that the player has taken time to make a decision but the club are keen to avoid a prolonged summer saga and are looking for a swift resolution that will almost certainly result in the striker ending his 16-year association with los Merengues.

West Ham make Thierry Henry bid but New York Red Bulls deal stands

West Ham have made an audacious move to sign Thierry Henry, the Barcelona striker, which would see the player become the highest-paid player in the club's history.

By Rod Gilmour
8:18AM BST 22 May 2010

David Sullivan, West Ham's co-chairman, has offered the 32 year-old a two-year deal worth in excess of £7.5 million as the London club attempts to scupper the hopes of New York Red Bulls, the Major League soccer outfit who have been linked with Henry for over a year.

However Telegraph Sport understands that Henry will leave the Nou Camp for New York after reports this week said that the Frenchman would make the move across the Atlantic after the World Cup.

The former Arsenal striker, whose Barcelona contract finishes in 2011, held talks with the MLS franchise in January to discuss a pre-contract deal with the Red Bulls, who moved to their new 25,000-seat, $180 million stadium in March.

The lure of the Premier League, though, could still be a stumbling block in Henry's decision to relocate Stateside.

Sullivan told The Sun: "We're trying to assemble a more prolific strike force at West Ham and I'd love to have Henry here. Our club is in debt but a striker of his quality and standing would make it a great deal."

"Henry is still up there with the best. I've made an offer which would make him the highest-paid player in the club's history. And it's a serious offer because Henry could walk into almost any Premier League side."

Henry spent much of this term at Barcelona on the bench, taking a back seat to rising star Pedro Rodriguez, and the club's technical director Txiki Begiristain admits the 32 year-old is not entirely satisfied at Camp Nou.

1. I hate that he's leaving Inter, it just shows that he's a coward, leave while on top (winning the 3 championships for Inter that is) I mean the TRUE challenge would be if he stays there and get them Championships again next year, mech ya3mel dareb wa7ad w yfel to Real, the team that is less challenging bi sara7a yerba7 el CL fi men Inter, just get him money la yom el money, bas i'd like to see what he's gonna do ma3on though
2. *To Man Utd Fans* I guess he's not a coach for Manchester, as we want someone to stay with us for years and years mech yfel after a successful season to seek new challenges..

BREAKING NEWS: UEFA Announce Two Extra Assistant Referees In Next Season's Champions League

Euro 2012 qualifiers will also get in on the action...

By Alex Dimond
May 27, 2010 6:26:00 PM

UEFA have announced that the experiment using two extra match officials, first trialled in last season's Europa League, is to be extended next season to the Champions League and qualifying games for the 2012 European Championship.

The five-referee system garnered mixed reviews in its trials in the Europe's second competition last season, but had already been extended for another two years before Thursday's announcement.

The extra officials will first appear in the playoff round of the Champions League, which will be played in August. Domestic football associations are also free to import the system into their own competitions.

Agent hints that Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are in the hunt with Real Madrid to sign Inter's Maicon

Brazilian's representative unsure if Real spoke with Moratti about his client...

By Rupert Fryer
28 May 2010 23:18:00

The agent of Inter full-back Maicon has dismissed reports suggesting Real Madrid are already set to sign his client and has dropped a hint that Premier League trio Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are all still in the race to sign the Brazilian.

"I don't know if [Inter president Massimo] Moratti and [Real Madrid president Florentino] Perez have talked about Maicon as well. If there was a discussion about him, Moratti will tell me during the coming days," Antonio Caliendo told Sky Sport 24.

With Jose Mourinho set to be presented to the press as Real’s new coach on Monday, some reports had suggested that Perez had also thrashed out a deal to take the Brazilian to the Bernabeu.

"Maicon has a very high value for a defender," warned Caliendo.

"I can't say what the right price for Maicon is. Only Moratti can tell you what he thinks is the right price to sell him to Real [Madrid], Manchester City, Chelsea or Manchester United."
