Money Study

This was a study I read that came out with a certain result for the question in the quotes bellow, I thought we would run the same study here :p and see if the same results emerge....

Quote:

Would you rather earn $50,000 a year while other people make $25,000, or would you rather earn $100,000 a year while other people get $250,000?

Assume for the moment that prices of goods and services will stay the same.

I will put up a poll, please specify why you chose the answer you did, and don't say neither or something like "everyone should get the same salary". Stick to the options ):

well i chose the second option :O
i don't care for being better than others or wealthiest or i dunno what
:inno::W all i care for is having enough money to live properly, to make some of my dreams come true :p and why not help my husband in the future :ang::W so i think 100 000$ is better than 50 000 (h):what:

if im earning 50,000$ while the other 25,000$ this means my life style is better than the others, and life cost less than earning 100,000$,

eno earning 50,000$ in lebanon is quit good and better than getting 100,000$ in us

it depends where are u living

If the costs are the same in both cases, and the country is the same...which one do u prefer? they are trying to see the human behavior factor with respect to others...it is more of a sociological study than it is an economical one....

well ill pick the first cause in a country that others make 25k a month its better to make 50k but in countries that they make 250k if you only make 100k its like you're poor in a such country not poor but not comfortable

Re: Money Study

according to economics if ur getting double of wat everyone gets , then for sure , prices will drop down , nd ull be able to buy lots of stuff , more than getting payed 100, nd others getting payed 250 , cuz prices will get up ,. the 100, wont worth a 50!

well i chose the 2nd option cz it's still enno 100 000$ is better than 50000 and even though others get 250 000 well 100 000 is a really good salary :D:d so i go with the 2nd option

Re: Money Study

if all ppl earn 250k then the general income in this country is 250k so prices of goods are set accordinly to the demand of those ppl to goods then it is set to 250k , while im getting 100k so i wont afford those goods.

but if they earn 25k and ill earn 50k so price of goods are related to the 25k that most earn as an income , so i will be better of with 50k

so ill choose answer 1

Re: Money Study

Ok lol...vcoderz people are special...this was the result of the study

Quote:

Surprisingly -- stunningly, in fact -- research shows that the majority of people select the first option; they would rather make twice as much as others even if that meant earning half as much as they could otherwise have. How irrational is that?
Here is another study they did with its result...comment :D

Quote:

A is waiting in line at a movie theater. When he gets to the ticket window, he is told that as he is the 100,000th customer of the theater, he has just won $100.

B is waiting in line at a different theater. The man in front of him wins $1,000 for being the 1-millionth customer of the theater. Mr. B wins $150.

Amazingly, most people said that they would prefer to be A. In other words, they would rather forgo $50 in order to alleviate the feeling of regret that comes with not winning the thousand bucks. Essentially, they were willing to pay $50 for regret therapy.

xcoder 01-16-2008 06:51 AM

Re: Money Study

Hehe, yea i agree, i prefer to be A in this matter.
When you're close to something and get the second prize you will always have the regret feeling somehow not being the first.

Re: Money Study

I don't care if others were more rich than me as long as i'm living a beautifull life with enough money to cover my spendings. so i voted for the second option.

but of course it's in case if the prices remained the same so we can live properly with 100.000 $
but if the 100.000 $ doesen't cover the prices and my life requirements of course then i'll choose number 1...

but i voted 2 if we supposed that prices and life requirements between 1 and 2 are equal.
