It seems that you're too lazy to set up a good thread...
What should we understand by seeing the word "router" as title and "Mikrotik anyone?" as post?!
Being lazy, will make the other people you are asking lazy too...
Do not expect from anyone to provide you with solutions for broad and ambiguous questions...
So please be more specific and describe everything...

Tawa 02-13-2009 12:41 AM

Lol,

Shawarma Anyone? :p

Anyways :Tawa: You Want To Build A Router? :Tawa: Or You Mean You Want To Set It Up :p?

This Is How Lazy You Made Me ):

The first part of what you said is wrong!
And what I can see is that you are still lazy...

Anyways, I will assume that all the connections and everything is managed well, the configuration should be like this:

1- Enable and name the Ethernet interfaces.
The interface which is connected to the network will be called int, and the one connected to the existing router will be called ext:

/interface set ether1,ether2 disabled=no
/interface set ether1 name=int
/interface set ether2 name=ext

2- Then let's assume the gateway has the IP address of 10.0.0.1/24. Adding the address of, for example, 10.0.0.2/24 to this interface, you should be able to ping the gateway. If it is not happening, then you should swap cables (i.e. plug the one connected to the ext interface to the int
and vice versa...)
Note: If neither works, there might be a firewall set up on the gateway, remove it temporarily and try again...

/ip address add interface=ext address=10.0.0.2/24
/ping 10.0.0.1

3- Create a bridge interface which bridges both int and ext physical interfaces:

/interface bridge add name=bridge
/interface bridge port set ext,int bridge=bridge

Note: the IP address should be transferred to the bridge interface:
/ip address set [/ip address find] interface=bridge

Now you can simply add the desirable queues.
Note
that you may use the names of the real interfaces for these queues. For example, to limit all download to 256Kbit/s and all upload to 128Kbit/s, it is enough to add two queues:
/queue simple add limit-at=131072 interface=ext
/queue simple add limit-at=262144 interface=int

By the way, I left you an example here:

^^Edgard are you using telnet? why wouldn't he configure it using winbox!!!
anyway i'd like to know if u have a mikrotik e-book. please share.

Sheriff Ice 02-13-2009 09:38 AM

I heard alot about mikrotik routers bas i have no idea, who do they work or anything.

eddy maybe u can prepare us a small tutorial in the e-learning section if you have no problem.

thank you.

Telnet if it's a Mikrotik Router, but in his case it is a PC having Mikrotik Router OS installed...
And I don't know why he don't use winbox, he want to use a Mikrotik OS so I gave him the configuration... But I don't remember if he can shape the traffic based on its type with winbox... Mikrotik is more professional and much more efficient... He can also take care of the quality of service...
But I don't know if he wants all this!:p
Ebook ==> Mikrotik.com & wiki

@icemaker
I don't know what do you want me to cover with the tutorial, because the topic is very big... I provided here an example and an advancd one...
Anyways, I'll try to prepare something as soon as I have time..

Just for avoiding confusion, when he puts the address 10.0.0.2/24 , he can use this address later to be able configure the shaper remotely via winbox if he wants...
He should be more clear with what he's doing and what he is using to configure the device...

This would be useful for Winbox:

the thing is im working in an internet cafe at night, got like 23 computers, i got a very fast internet but if one of the clients opens a youtube video, the whole cafe stops responding and when downloading any file thei nternet is sucked like dust in a hoover by the client's pc, making all the others out of order or with very slow internet connection. im currently operating thru a router, but i heard that Mikrotik is way better to configure caching and shaping giving each pc a 10kB connection... w bala waja3rass w na2 :)
i tryed googling it before i come to this forum, but nothing worked, i got the OS, winbox, both operating , i have ping from clients to router, and from router to Gateway, i was able to assign ques using winbox, configured the firewall, masquerading and lots of things, but i cant get the computers to access web..
so basicly, balashet ek3a im missing on somthing bass im not sure why, i cant get enaugh timeto concentrate on this thing ..

thnks guys :) [ in advance]

Internet Access => port 80
Use telnet to connect to this port from a client computer and see what you will get...

See also port 8080, it might be taken by default...

:O did you forget to bridge the two connections (WAN - LAN)?
btw, youtube is your friend in mikrotik, unlike google.
