Man City plan world-record bid for Ronaldo
Manchester City are ready to smash the world transfer record to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to the Premier League. Roberto Mancini's men joined European football's elite last week by qualifying for the Champions League for the first time. Now City want the Portuguese superstar to spearhead their bid to win the trophy next season. Argentine forward has disclosed that he wants to part company from last year’s Europa League winners and move to a different club.

Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero has revealed that he wants to leave the club this summer.

In a statement posted on his official Twitter page, the 22-year-old explicitly stated his desire not to continue playing for last year’s Europa League winners.

"I have expressed to Atleti my desire to leave,” said Aguero. “I've asked to receive, unconditionally, the offers that come from other clubs."

This comes just hours after the Spanish media reported that Aguero spent an hour and a half in discussion with his father and his agents at the Vicente Calderon this evening. Atletico’s chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin and their president Enrique Cerezo were allegedly not present at the meeting.

The Argentina international further posted a full statement on his official website in which he explained why he wants to play for a different team from next season.

“I am about to turn 23 and I have everything before me,” said Aguero. “It is sufficient to say that it is not an economic reason to leave, but strictly a sporting one.

"So I want to clearly express my appreciation to the club for the effort they made in keeping me on a salary that befits some of the largest institutions in the world.

“I also want to say that this decision has been in progress for some time,” Aguero continued. “The issue was even discussed and agreed with Atleti last year when I renewed my contract. I wanted to sign and renew my contract as a way to give back to the club what they have given me.”

He added: “I then had the promise of the club that they would not impede my departure in June 2011.”

The former Independiente forward also thanked the Atletico supporters and expressed his “eternal gratitude”, adding that they “are already part of my identity and a way of understanding football.”

Aguero’s release clause is reportedly 45 million euros plus the IVA value-added tax: if this figure is met, then Atletico is contractually bound to allow him to negotiate with the bidding club. His current contract runs until 2014.

Several clubs have recently been linked with Aguero. Barcelona was said to be interested, Real Madrid was also following developments despite Aguero's promise never to join Atleti's city rivals, and Manchester City has also allegedly put itself in the frame. No club has yet admitted a concrete bid for the young forward.

Sir Alex Ferguson has acted quickly to replace the outgoing Edwin van der Sar by smashing the British transfer record for a goalkeeper and agreeing the signing this summer of David de Gea from Atlético Madrid for a fee believed to be in the region of £17m.

The size of the fee indicates the importance Ferguson has attached to finding the right successor to Van der Sar at Old Trafford. The figure dwarfs the £9m Sunderland paid Hearts for Craig Gordon in 2007 and makes the 20-year-old De Gea, who is yet to win a cap for Spain, the second most expensive goalkeeper in football history behind Gianluigi Buffon, who swapped Parma for Juventus in a deal worth around £32m in 2001.

After six seasons at United Van der Sar is to retire after Saturday's Champions League final against Barcelona and Ferguson will hope the signing of De Gea will prevent filling the No1 shirt turning into the problem it became following the departure of Peter Schmeichel after United won the competition in 1999.

"We've been working on it for quite a while," said Ferguson of the signing. "We identified him quite a while back as one we should go for. He's young, very quick, good composure, presence and an outstanding replacement for Van der Sar.

"We were looking for the same type of qualities as Edwin, because the one great quality Edwin always had was his composure and organisational ability. David de Gea is very similar that way."

Anyone seen him in action in the spanish league? I've seen him a couple of times, Sir Alex focused on how good his composure is which is true, it's a good trait to have, being calm with quick reflexes plus making ur presence felt on the pitch with ur players. Hope he'll be a good signing!

Official: Antonio Conte appointed new Juventus coach

Juventus have confirmed Antonio Conte will be their coach for the next two years after the 41-year-old signed a contract in Turin on Tuesday afternoon.

A statement on the club's official website reads:

"Antonio Conte has returned to Juventus. This time to lead them not from the pitch, but from the bench. He is the new coach. Conte has signed a two-year contract that will tie him to the Bianconeri until June 30, 2013."

Earlier the club had confirmed that Luigi Del Neri left his post following one season at the helm. The former Sampdoria man was only able to lead them to a seventh place finish, leaving president Andrea Agnelli to consider his options.

Agnelli said of Conte's arrival: "We want to win, and we want to do it with Conte. He is the first piece of the jigsaw to return to being successful."

The new coach, who guided Siena back to Serie A last term, already has a few new names on his team sheet for the next campaign.

Andrea Pirlo arrived from AC Milan, while Reto Ziegler signed from relegated Sampdoria. The aims for Conte and company are to continue building as Juve hope to return to the upper echelons of Serie A.

During his time with the club as a player, Conte lifted the Champions League and as many as 14 major trophies.

Bayern Munich announce signings of Manuel Neuer from Schalke & Rafinha from Genoa

After many months of negotiations, the transfer poker game between Schalke and Bayern Munich over Manuel Neuer's signature has come to a close. The Bavarians issued a press release on Wednesday confirming the capture of the Germany international, who will sign a five-year contract.

Additionally, FC Hollywood's official website confirmed the signing of Rafinha from Genoa on a three-year deal that will expire in 2014.

"Today, FC Bayern Munich and FC Schalke 04 agreed to terms of the transfer of Manuel Neuer. Consequently, Neuer will join the German record champions on July 1, 2011," read a statement on the official Bayern website.

Neuer was absolutely thrilled to complete his move to Bayern and is ready to start a new chapter in his career at the Allianz Arena.

"I'm really looking forward to a great and exciting challenge at Bayern," he said. "Many colleagues from the national team are now my team-mates in Munich. So I will not enter an unknown territory and should settle in quickly."

The 25-year-old Rafinha was also excited to return to the Bundesliga and issued a statement of intent heading into the upcoming season.

"I am delighted that the change to Munich has been completed and that I can play again in the Bundesliga," he said.

The Brazilian added that in Munich he will "finally win the title, which so far I have failed to do. Here I can play against the best teams and with the very best players in the world, I am very happy."

Financial details including transfer and contract values were not released, although it is estimated that Neuer cost €18 million plus bonuses, and Rafinha came for around €5.5m.

The pair follow Nils Petersen as Bayern's second and third signings of the transfer window.

He's very good and suited for the german league, he said he didn't like in italy, and he played out of position in genoa.. I remember that he started for brazil in some international matches, he's very good in attack too (typical brazilian fullback :p)

yeah he's not world class but he's good, saw him only once this season against bayern, he's not easy to get past. his value is 6M euro which means he's not bad at all.
