the official sehnaoui page announced today that lebanon's bandwidth has increased to 23 gbps from 13 gbps and that they are running some tests now and will release the new bandwidth soon xd

that kind of addition should yield to an upgrade (or price reduction) in the offered plans.

Awesome upgrade, that will affect us big time.
I hope they will at least increase the quota for same price.

Finally, a ministry that is doing its job, we jumped from 2.5Gbps last year to 23Gbps this year!

زيادة سعات الإنترنت بأسلوب «التنقيط»


أضحت سعة الإنترنت الإجمالية المتوافرة للاستهلاك في لبنان 23 غيغابيت في الثانية (Gb/s) وفقاً لما أعلنه وزير الاتصالات نقولا صحناوي أمس، موضحاً أنّ الكميّة رُفعت بسبب ارتفاع الطلب خلال الآونة الأخيرة. غير أنّ زيادة العرض ليست عملية سهلة، ولن تكون كذلك في المستقبل. وقال في تعليق على موقع «Facebook» إنّ «السعة الجديدة هي قيد التجربة حالياً» على أن يجري تحريرها «قريباً» بهدف «تحسين نوعية الاتصالات المتوافرة».

وقد عانى لبنان طويلاً ضيق السعات المتوافرة إلى أن جرى الإفراج عن جزء منها مع تأليف الحكومة الجديدة، فارتفعت السعات المتوافرة من 3 غيغابايت إلى 13 غيغابيات. ومنذ ذلك الحين ومع خفض أسعار الإنترنت ارتفع الطلب، ووصل في الأسبوع الماضي إلى الحدّ الأقصى الذي تغطّيه الكمية المتوافرة.
ومع توفير السعات الجديدة تقترب الكميات الحقيقيّة المتوافرة من حجمها الاسمي؛ بمعنى أنّه في وضع توافر السعات لا يحظى المشترك بحزمة 1Mb/s إلّا بـ700Kb/s، أو حتّى أقلّ.
وأضحى الجميع تقريباً يعرف قصّة الكابل الدولي الشهير الذي يمدّ لبنان بسعاته الدولية (IMEWE)، فإلى جانب استمرار العرقلة السياسية من جانب إدارة «أوجيرو»، يرضخ وزير الاتصالات نقولا صحناوي للتوازن الذي يفرضه رئيس الحكومة نجيب ميقاتي بينه وبين عبد المنعم يوسف، بحكم الحساسيّات السياسية. ووفقاً لمطّلعين على هذا الملفّ، فإن صحناوي رضخ بالكامل لهذا التوازن، ولم يحرّك ساكناً في مواجهته حرصاً منه على عدم تعكير علاقته الخاصة برئيس الحكومة عشية الانتخابات التي سيخوضها في عام 2013، وهذا ما أسهم باستمرار تمسّك عبد المنعم يوسف بمفاتيح السعات الدولية. وتُشير المصادر إلى أنّ الوزارة ستضطرّ قريباً إلى إجراء زيادة إضافيّة في السعات مع ارتفاع الطلب أكثر، «لكن المهمّة لن تكون سهلة، بسبب التوازن المفروض بين الوزارة والهيئة!».

mine is 2 mbps, but last week the ping got to 600 ms, and I like to play online games I don't care much about the download speed :P they started to fix that problem for me it seems now it is 380

anyway, from what I hear and feel :P many ISP are routing their customers through satellite instead of the cables. apparently after the price reductions, the demand exceeded what they were expecting and the bandwidth was not enough. I think the internet will not become any cheaper with this upgrade, however it should cover the demand and remove the latency problems we have(satellite sucks) and the reduced speeds of 3G I guess...

my latency has been 100 ms for one week in a row now, after I spent a month on a 400 ms latency. maybe something good is happening in the internet sector beyond ogero :P

Not only for ogero users, for some late subscribers to idm, terranet, sodetel, and co. in some areas. Some subscribers don't have the unlimited nights offer.
But yeah, ogero subscribers are the happiest of them all :p
