The Orange Room was closed on October 5, 2012 after almost 10 years of great success, 21000 members, 1,110,000 posts and millions of views

why is that? what did happen? anyone has any idea?

Forums are so 2000. Nowadays you have facebook, twitter, and many other social websites. Forums are sinking into the history of internet.

This is totally ridiculous!! To close such a forum just like that. Over night! shou l administration mfakra l 3alam barghash ya3ne!! this is way below low level!!

afaik, there is a facebook group for the OR.. i was once there but now forgot what it's named. Do you know this group?

And is John still active over here. Maybe he could shed some light on the issue or give some needed explanations!

My first guess, that's all some internal silly conflicts..

I used to check the orange room every now and then, but never posted anything... There were a lot of active members there, it's shame they've closed it...

Closing the Orange due to a decision from the FPM itself was the last reason we could imagine.
It Seems free opinion started hurting the leadership which means,
FPM is no Longer FPM,
FPM became what we were fighting through the years

It could be the start of sthg better here, that forum needed alot of things to be fixed which they didnt bring on.

I can easily move it back to where it was back in 2002 but why should I? I finally feel free and i longer have to clean anyone's mess and most importantly, I don't want to defend the mistakes and "fight" the wrong causes.

I don't know where will i end up, but I am going to give up on so many things, starting with the "institution" and most probably the shithole (AKA Lebanon) itself, Canada, USA, Australia, UAE and Qatar are all options but i also realize how this past 10 years i ignored many people who love me, i might stick around for now, just for my family and friends.

why not at least inform us about it beforehand? at least we can manage to invite each other to another place?

No silly conflicts, Tayyar.org has no plans to keep the forum online, so they decided to close it.

أو ما اصطلح على تسميته " الغرفة البرتقالية "، الى إقفال موقع الغرفة وشطبه من موقع التيار الحر من قبل المحررين، الذين رفضوا توجيهات القيادة القاضية بعدم نشر أي مادة لا تخضع للرقابة الصارمة من قبل كوادر التيار. علماً أنّ هذه الغرفة تأسست قبل نحو عشر سنوات كغرفة نقاش الكتروني، يساهم في النقاش على صفحاتها ناشطون من مختلف التيارات والاحزاب اللبنانية، ما أدّى الى توسع عدد أعضائها ليبلغ 22 ألفاً، شاركوا في الكتابة التفاعلية، فيما بلغ عدد الزوّار الدائمين نحو 83 ألفاً.

محرّرو الغرفة اعتبروا أنّ التدخلات المستمرة، التي باشرتها قيادة التيار منذ العام 2007 ، أدّت الى ضرب الفكرة التي نشأت على أساسها الغرفة، بل ضرب القضية التي آمنوا بها، وهي حرية الفكر والتعبير والديموقراطية، وتقبّل الرأي الآخر، فتحوّلت الى قمع ورفض رأي ناشطين من حزب " الكتائب " و" القوات اللبنانية "، بل وأكثر من ذلك تريد شطب أي رأي أو مقال يوضع على هذه الصفحة لا يتناسب مع سياسة التيار أو زعيمه، على الرغم من الرقابة المشدّدة التي كان يفرضها المحررون على كل إساءة لأي زعيم أو سياسي.

ويرى ناشط عوني على صلة وثيقة بإدارة المنتدى أنّ القياديين في التيار "ما عادت تهمّهم المبادئ والقيم، وخصوصاً المسؤولين عن موقع التيار الحر والمحطة البرتقالية، وهم استبدلوا الحرية بالمال، والديموقراطية بالسلطة والنفوذ ليقنعوا محرري المنتدى المتطوعين، بأنّهم لا يملكون المال الكافي لدعم المنتدى".

وتابع، "انها نهاية حزينة لعشر سنوات من العمل الدؤوب من أجل قول الحق والحقيقة، عملنا خلالها متطوعين من مختلف الدول، أي لبنان، وكندا واستراليا ودبي وغيرها من الدول. دفعنا النفقات من حسابنا الخاص، وضحّينا بوقتنا وعائلاتنا من أجل هدف سامٍ، جمع كل المذاهب والمعتقدات، وكل التيارات والاحزاب ألا وهو "حرية التعبير"، إلى ان أتى بعض القياديين من ناكري الجميل ليخنقوا حريتنا، وليقمعوا كلماتنا تحت عنوان الكيدية والمصلحة العونية السياسية".

وشرح الناشط أهمية هذا المنتدى على صعيد نقل الاحداث والاخبار في أحداث " نهر البارد" والانتخابات في العام 2009، حيث كان المنتدى مصدراً لصحافيين ولمواقع الكترونية إخبارية.

أضاف، "طبعاً، لم تكن حجّتهم مقنعة، ولم يكن تحدّيهم وعنادهم أقوى، أحببنا التيار الحرّ من أجل الجنرال وليس من أجل كوادره ومسؤوليه. وأحببنا الجنرال لمعتقداته وأفكاره الحرّة والجريئة. اليوم، يريدون منّا التخلي عن كل ما آمنّا به ليقولوا للعالم : "نحن أو لا أحد"، إلاّ أنّهم لم ولن يحصلوا على مبتغاهم. وُجد هذا المنتدى من اجل حرية التعبير والرأي وأغلقناه تحت هذا الشعار كي نبقى نحن العونيين الاصيلين وهم المنشقون".

وختم: "نسوا الشعب الذي منه انبثقوا ولأجله وُجدوا، وهرولوا وراء المال ظنّاً منهم أنّه سيدوم لهم ومن خلاله سيحصلون على المجد، لكّننا سنذكرهم أنّ الانتخابات قادمة وأنّ مالهم ومصالحهم فانية وأنّ كلمة الحق باقية

I remember there was a decision from tayyar to close the forum back in 2007/08 then they pulled back....it seems Lebanese parties hate freedom of speech, just check other forums how they were forced to close....

It is really sad to see fpm arrogance blind the top leaders specially GMA who was our main inspiration for the past 20 years.

All i can say RIP FPM they will not get my vote, it seems the 100$ from hariristan is more real than the morals that FPM has been speaking abt for 20 years,

Orange room story is similar to the Y2K buble era.

Many little start ups got rich from the y2k scare, as well as the internet pick up that started a huge rush from 96 onwards...

These little start up did not get rich cause they had a good business model and good practices. So once the buble burst, they all crumbled and the ones properly designed and managed remained.

Orange room picked up on - to use Jombie's words - the Tsunami that came back to Beirut. It also picked up on taghyir wa isla7 clean & patriotic image.. most moderates in lebanon and abroad are pro lfpm.

When someone positions the forum as an lfpm.org forum, chances are it will pick up, and the lebanese politics + ghanam syndrome will maintain it.

So yeah it turned out to be an internal conflict after all! FPM and Tayyer.org staff want more restrictions on the forum, Hagop obviously refused (rightly so), and he didn't have any other option but to close it down!

Anyway, FPM were exposed long ago. We didn't need this forum fiasco to know all about this.

The question now: Hagop offered to give the database for those interested in hosting the forum elsewhere.

Few years ago, he sold the forum to FPM! Can he really give the database forward?! It's not his forum anymore!

If that's possible, we can move elsewhere and as if nothing has happened!
If not possible, we can still move elsewhere, but start from the zero!!

the issue is, i'm not with bringing the forum back as it is!

i see it totally insulting if we go back forum.tayyar.org.. we either need to move the forum away from FPM and turn it into a completely independent entity or start all over again!

vcoderz is an option of course (thanks for hosting us guys), but will they be able to afford a bigger forum?
and problems sticks that vcoderz is also politically affiliated despite that they work independently..

it's time we have a completely independent english speaking forum? shou 2ilna? keeping the name as orange room is even better! orange is the universal color of independance anyway! also easier to google the new room for those who have no idea on what happened so far and can't find this place nor the facebook group..

the FB page is an opportunity to chat, to have fun. the serious stuff is in a forum. we have a good chance we can use this one, we can't waste a lot of time searching for other alternatives, we don't want to lose the orange room active members.

together with the current members of the vcoderz forum we can make it. let it be from zero, why not? the hot topics of the orange room are well known, let's open them here.
