Here is an article I read few days ago, regarding the hardware requirements of Windows Vista:

Tech Strategist within Microsoft, Nigel Page, has gone on record to discuss the hardware requirements for Windows Vista ...
What he's said is kind of shocking.

Vista is a hardware beast

Graphics: Vista has changed from using the CPU to display bitmaps on the screen to using the GPU to render vectors. This means the entire display model in Vista has changed. To render the screen in the GPU requires an awful lot of memory to do optimally - 256MB is a happy medium, but you'll actually see benefit from more. Microsoft believes that you're going to see the amount of video memory being shipped on cards hurtle up when Vista ships.

CPU: Threading is the main target for Vista. Currently, very little of Windows XP is threaded - the target is to make Vista perform far better on dual-core and multi-core processors.

RAM: 2GB is the ideal configuration for 64-bit Vista, we're told. Vista 32-bit will work ideally at 1GB, and minimum 512. However, since 64-bit is handling data chunks that are double the size, you'll need double the memory, hence the 2GB. Nigel mentions DDR3 - which is a little odd, since the roadmap for DDR3, on Intel gear at least, doesn't really kick in until 2007.

HDD: SATA is definitely the way forward for Vista, due, Microsoft tells us, to Native Command Queueing. NCQ allows for out of order completions - that is, if Vista needs tasks 1,2,3,4 and 5 done, it can do them in the order 2,5,3,4,1 if that's a more efficient route for the hard drive head to take over the disk. This leads to far faster completion times. NCQ is supported on SATA2 drives, so expect them to start becoming the standard sooner rather than later. Microsoft thinks that these features will provide SCSI-level performance.

Bus: AGP is 'not optimal' for Vista. Because of the fact that graphics cards may have to utilise main system memory for some rendering tasks, a fast, bi-direction bus is needed - that's PCI express.

Display: Prepare to feel the red mist of rage - no current TFT monitor out there is going to support high definition playback in Vista. You may already have heard rumblings about this, but here it is. To play HD-DVD or Blu-Ray content you need a HDCP compatible monitor. Why? Because these formats use HDCP to encrypt a video signal as it travels along a digital connection to an output device, to prevent people copying it. If you have just standard DVI or even an analogue output, you're going to see HD scaled down to a far-less-than-HD resolution for viewing - which sucks. This isn't really Microsoft's fault - HDCP is something that content makers, in their eternal wisdom, have decided is necessary to stop us all watching pirated movies. Yay.

Thank You ...

oufffffff man ... best results are with Gateway FX530XT which costs only 4500 $ and u still can't play Doom 3 :p

most important things are the memory and graphic card from what i saw ...

Thank You ...

What is a Windows Vista Capable PC?

http://img.microsoft.com/library/med...g_capable2.png
A new PC running Windows XP that carries the Windows Vista Capable PC logo can run Windows Vista. All editions of Windows Vista will deliver core experiences such as innovations in organizing and finding information, security, and reliability. All Windows Vista Capable PCs will run these core experiences at a minimum. Some features available in the premium editions of Windows Vista—like the new Windows Aero user experience—may require advanced or additional hardware.

A Windows Vista Capable PC includes at least:
  • A modern processor (at least 800MHz¹).
  • 512 MB of system memory.
  • A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.
Windows Vista Premium Ready PCs
Some Windows Vista Capable PCs have been designated Premium Ready. These PCs will provide an even better Windows Vista experience, including the Windows Aero user experience. Features available in specific premium editions of Windows Vista, such as the ability to watch and record live TV, may require additional hardware.
A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:
  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor¹).
  • 1 GB of system memory.
  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)², Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel.
  • 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
  • DVD-ROM Drive³.
  • Audio output capability.
  • Internet access capability.
Read all of the Windows Vista Capable footnotes.
Can the Windows Vista experience vary on different PCs?

Yes. Windows Vista is the first Windows operating system with a user experience that adapts to take advantage of the capabilities of the hardware on which it is installed.
All Windows Vista Capable PCs will be able to run at least the core experiences of Windows Vista.
All Windows Vista Premium Ready PCs can deliver even better Windows Vista experiences, including the new Windows Aero user experience.
Does buying a Windows Vista Capable PC mean that I will receive a free upgrade to Windows Vista?

No. A PC that is Windows Vista Capable or Premium Ready means that the PC is ready for an upgrade from Windows XP. You would still need to purchase the edition of Windows Vista that you want to install on your Windows Vista Capable or Premium Ready PC.

Some product features are only available in certain editions of Windows Vista and may require advanced or additional hardware.

Re: إطلاق نظام ويندوز فيستا في منتصف الليل من

After more than five years of intensive effort—and more than a few setbacks—today Microsoft announced that Windows Vista is complete. The company's decision to release the product to manufacturing means that it will be available to volume-licensing customers—large companies, that is—at the end of November, and to consumers and small-business buyers around the end of January 2007.
In the meantime, hardware and software vendors have some time to tune their products to improve compatibility, and system OEMs have the opportunity to finalize their deployment and support processes and begin stocking retail channels. For now, many OEMs have begun offering PCs that quality for Microsoft's Express Upgrade program, under which customers who buy a Windows Vista Capable or Windows Vista Premium Ready PC today can upgrade for a (typically nominal) fee set by the manufacturer.

Of course, we're working on a comprehensive review of Windows Vista Ultimate Edition now. Today, we're posting a walkthrough of Vista build 6000.16385, which came from Microsoft's build lab in Redmond on October 31. It isn't quite the final version that was released to manufacturing today, but is extremely close. (Microsoft says there were some last-minute, behind-the-scenes bug fixes whose impact on the product are negligible, and that the build we tested is, to all visible extent, identical to the final code.) Interestingly, the build we tested includes a few visual tweaks since Release Candidate 2, like new icons for some applications.
First impressions? Certainly, Windows Vista is far from everything Microsoft promised—even many capabilities included in the series of alpha and beta releases that began at the PDC (Professional Developers' Conference) in 2003 are not present in the final product. I can't help but feel a bit disappointed by the absence of major features like WinFS (Windows Future Storage), especially since Microsoft has been trying unsuccessfully to deliver a next-generation filesystem for more than a decade now.
That said, there's a lot to like about Vista: improved security, the new Start menu and Windows Explorer, task-based activity centers, better bundled applications and utilities, tablet and Media Center enhancements, and more. Of course, many of these components—particularly applications like Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and Windows Media Player 11—are also available for free download on Windows XP, so you don't have to upgrade to Vista to take advantage of them. But Vista integrates them well, and in the past few weeks I've found the OS has reached a level of stability, performance, and reliability that have made it thoroughly usable on a daily basis, with the exception of a third-party application or two that isn't yet compatible.
I can't help shake the feeling, though, that Vista was rushed out the door. As you'll see in our walkthrough, I've encountered a number of bugs while I've been exercising the OS over the past few days. Some are outright errors—nothing catastrophic, despite the alarming language in one error dialog—and some are just interface oddities and nuisances that, while not disruptive, indicate to me a lack of fit and finish. I've also observed some other minor forms of misbehavior that I haven't included in this walkthrough because they're difficult to show visually.
Of course, all code has bugs, and when the bugs are relatively minor, they barely detract from the utility of the software. As Vista goes out to hundreds of millions of users over the next few years, we'll certainly see whether the new OS meets Microsoft's goals of being the most stable and secure operating system it's ever delivered.

Vista has been finalized it's true, but you need time so it becomes fully compatible with any kind of hardware you may have (including the ability to find drivers for things are aren't on the HCL).
I still say, boycott microsoft use debian ubuntu!
