New Music vs Old Music

A couple of days ago I was listening to the Radio in the car, I had Light FM on and they were playing a song for Élodie Frégé Called "De l'eau", for those who don't know, Élodie is the winner of star académie France and "De l'eau" is one of her best songs!
Anyways, I think this song is a little monotonous so I switched to Nostalgie and they had Dalida on, they were playing a song that was not really known (not a Dalida hit), but her voice, the way she sang it, the music, well everything was better then the known song for the winner of a music contest!

So that made me think that today best songs are worst then yesterday normal ones!! And that's not only in French music, Is there any voice that can equal Frank Sinatra voice in English songs? Is there any voice that can equal Fayrouz voice in Arabic songs?

Why do you think this is happening? Is it the studios fault or the listeners fault?
Do you know any new voice that can match the voices of the old singers?

Amazing Thread U did bro':)

let's talk music...

Actually, the world's problem these dayz is related to its ppl... we chose to lsn to these bullshit... the media, the discoteqs, the studios, the producers... 99% of 'em lost the taste of real music... It's all about earning money... I remember the oldies songs.. the greatest of 'em all... deep meaning, lovely beats, & most importantly.. greatest voices of all time... let's take an e.g. these dayz n back dayz: if i asked u who is the best Egyptian singer of the world today? u may say Amro Diab... but if I asked u who's ur favorite egyptian singer back dayz... u will say Oum Kelthoum, Abdel 7alim... so u c... the world's changed a lot.. from Fayruz to dana:o  ... basicallly, I reached a point where i hated to lsn to arabic music cuz its all the same old same, crap, dancing, money & nonsence...

Old music: the greatest voices ever:

1- Gipsy kings (Bamboleo, Lambada, Volare... ---> the best songs ever)... this band that includes the greatest LATIN singers of all time & Im sure many of u heard his songs when u used 2 be kidz but u don't remember them until u hear 'em:D... They reached 1 of the top sellin' pop-flamenco into the whole world... the ones who has taste in music will like 'em a lot:)

2- Boney M (Daddy Cool, Ma Baker, Rasputin, River Of Babylon...etc... best songs:D) they earned their succes in Europe with their Disco Music:D

3- Bee Gees (How deep is ur love, Night Fever, Staying Alive, Tragedy, u should be dancing... etc... lovely music:D)... they were 7 times Grammy Award winners which have been honored as the Songwriters Hall of Fame n Rock & Roll Hall of Fame... they r amazin':D

4- Abba (Dancing Queen, Fernando, chikitta, gimme giime gimme money, Lay all ur love on me, Mama mia, Voulez Vous.... etc... i loooove their songs:D)... this swedish group was one of the best of all time...

still have more to talk about old music, old singers, old bands... like
Kool & the gang: she's fresh so fresh...
Survivors: Eye of the tiger, in the burning heart...
Culture beat: Mr. Vain...
Dan Harrow: Catch The Fox...
C C Catch: Cuz u r young...
Sting: desert Rose, send ur love...
America: Horse With No Name, Ventura Highway...
Dalida: salma ya salama, aghani aghani...
Adriano Celentano: I want to know...
Bon Jovi: It's my life, Bed of rose, Undivided
Mickael Jackson: Billie Jean, thriller, they dun care about us...

still more to hear n to talk about :D:D

as for the new music, u can still find 1% of the best singers

New Music: Just hear it out:

Linkin Park: 2 different styles merged into one gender to form a different kind of music (Rock n Rap) most famous songs ever: In the end, crawling, numb, faint, somewhere i belong, Hit the floor, What I've Done, With you....

Evanescence: one of the greatest bands, reached the top through bring me to life, going under, my immortal (the rock version mostly), Everybody's Fool, Lies, The Only One, Lithium...

Celine Dion: It's kinda old & new music:D...I believe in you, Et S'il n'en restait qu'une, You and, My heart will go on (the famous titanic Soundtrack which was the best one ever...) One Heart, I Drove all night, Goodbye's (The Saddest World)... Celine Dion... were real soft music starts...

Saliva: let's rock on with some of his deep lyrics extremely amazing which were expressed by his loud voice... I walk alone, ladies n gentlemen...

peace

like u said lebanese_a , those days we don't use our ears in music cz we don't found a perfect voice or a such good music and performance , so we use only our eyes to see dance and short skirts new look and all for fashion ..
And the music is going from worst to worst , cz everyone doesn't have a work or is bored in his house take the mic up on the stage and sing a song with a very attractive costum and some plastic surgery so moustawa l songss 0 w akid ma fi 7ada bi moustawa fayrouz w majida l roumi w wadi3 l safi w enrique iglecias w gheyron :)

Re: New Music vs Old Music

When it comes to arabic, recent music is shite compared to the classics.
I just need to mention Sabah Fakhri, Karem Mahmoud, Melhem Barakat, Al Cheikh Imam, Feyruz...etc etc, its illogical to compare to knowadays artists...thats why they are called "3amalikat al madi".

well u can find bad music in oldies and in the new music generation and u can find amazing songs and artists in both generations......like in arabic music there's now soumayya baalbacky and many other singers that are really good....

but in my opinion nowadays lots of music are based on not real bands and real instruments but on mixers and computer or dunno what....like those dj's for example in lebanon...they don't know anything about music...no theory no nothing....they just mix songs and think that they're good...plus ones like avb and dj tiesto well i don't deny that they have good " songs " but sincerely i can;t call those real music.....

so in general those mixes and the music categorized as trance and dunno what genre i really can't compare them to good music and anything where actually there's people who are playing and 3am yete2no l chaghle not just a normal guy 3am yetsalla w ynachiz 3al mixer or dunno what it's called.....

i'm not gonna state some good artists names....but i have a comment on Justin post where he has put pink floyd and many other legendary bands, with people like armin van buuren and dj tiesto...there's a big difference between those...and in my opinion fare2 moustawa....u can't compare some REAL artists to those kind of people....

You Got a huge point if we're talkin about Rock music... but Armin & tiesto are pink floyd themselves in TRANCE music... let's talk trance, armin's style isnt by using engineers in audio premastering aand such, he believes in the remix/mix that he creates or edit since the FIRST TIME... while tiesto works in his studio by editing and such... difference btw both of them too...
anyhow, trance is hated by rock fans, rock is hated by rap fans.. eno its natural...

but if u wanna talk about DJs, i'll tell you somethin about them, some Djs dont know what it means aslan... What is a Dj?? eno inte w nezil 3al night club 3am tesma3 cd in ur car that u chose its collection, then u park ur car, go inside that night club to hear the exact same music??? that's what i call "‘افلاس فكري بالموسيقى"... its not hearing a song that u already know, its about hearing a song that u have never heard: it can be a beat, a remix, an old song, a brand new song... somethin totally new... and u LOVE IT and u get "el 7eshriyé" to ask about its name, or who sings it or whom did it (it can be made by the Dj, just like armin for e.g.)...

as for tiesto, i call him a remixer while armin is a producer.. tiesto's famous song is and still ADAGIO FOR STRINGS... adagio for strings is a very very old symphony that was used as a movie theme song.. but not everyone knows that, tiesto who made it famous, loving it, dancing to its rhythm... the original track is a sad track, soft one... Moreover, armin creates music, lyrics, beats not remixing... that's the difference btw those TWO...

red part:.....well i listen to trance ...i listen to rock....i listen to classical music....blues...jazz....oldies...everything and based on this i criticize....i didn't say i hate trance music but if u wanna put those styles on a scale....trance(and other similar styles) will be in the bottom....there's no creativity in music like trance....they take songs that l nes te3bo ta ya3emlouwoun and do a mix for them or put a beat in them enno they did smtg....
blue part: yeah i know....and that's what i'm talking about ma byekhla2o chi....they just take songs made before and try to make them the way they like so everything created is a lot better than everything "masrou2".....
green part: but there's no real instruments in his songs...there's no people who are playing music .....that's the difference between trance(+similar genre of music) and the other style of music...that's why i'm saying u can't put dj tiesto and those with pink floyd and Edith Piafand etc etc....fare2 moustawa....

and finally for those who are talking about feiruz and l khyar wl banadoura.....well it's ur opinion but i think ur wrong ....try to listen to a song for feiruz listen to the lyrics read them understand them...listen to the music ....plus listen to her voice ....

u got it wrong concerning el 5yar wel banadoura!!! i'm critisizing him for saying that all he got from fairuz song is chagra w tefe7a w laymoune!!!

Fairuz is a history that couldn't be replied, all the arabs envies us of having such a special lady!!!!
who of us can't remember many lyrics of her songs even after longtime no listening to!!!

while these days we download a new song, we like it, we listen to it for 1, 2 or 3 weeks, then after, we are mostly to forget it, and even wouldn't remember many of its lyrics!!!
