Ribery: Italy Will Not Qualify

Speaking to Scottish newspaper "The Daily Record", Bayern Munich and France star Franck Ribery declared that France and Scotland are going to Euro 2008 - leaving Italy out in the cold...

Franck Ribery has boldly stated that France and Scotland - not Italy - are heading to Euro 2008 in Austria and Switzerland next year.

The Bayern Munich midfield ace told The Daily Record, "I'm not worried at all; I know that [France] and Scotland will be the ones who qualify from Group B in November.

"Of course, losing to Scotland was a hammer blow for us. It was hard to take, and impossible to accept.

"Nonetheless, unless the Scots completely screw things up for themselves, it is they who will be joining us in the Euros - not Italy."

Italy and France have already squared off twice in qualifying, Les Bleus winning the first encounter before the World Champions managed a draw more recently at the San Siro.

Scotland, meanwhile, twice pulled off shock 1-0 wins over France, losing 2-0 to the Azzurri in between.

The Tartan Army will meet Italy once more, this time at Hampden, in the quest for their first major tournament qualification in a decade.

Scotland currently top the group with 21 points from a possible 27, while Italy have 20 and France 19.
