The Forgotten

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and I have joined because I see that there are people here
who seek the truth and love Lebanon and it's people. I joined to write to you
about a small lebanese community, no more than a hundred, who has been left out
and forgotten.

What I'm about to write might spark anger and I might be accused of being a
deceiver or a traitor but know that I'm a lebanese muslim who loves his country
and it's people more than anything in this wold and who sees no difference in
people regardless of race and religion. Please read the full text before saying
anything.

The ones I'm talking about are the lebanese jews who stayed in their beloved
homeland while everybody else left. These people resisted the zionists and fought
next to their fellow countrymen against them in 1967. But now they are afraid of
entering their synagogues in beirut, afraid of telling people what their belifes are,
because someone might hurt them.

As I'm writing this, I'm realizing that I really don't know what I'm trying to
accomplish, maybe just rise awareness, rise awareness so people might accept
them as fellow countrymen.

These people are our brothers and sisters, we can't forget them.

The ones that live in lebanon right now are mostly elderly and there are about 100 of them. It's a small amount, I know, but my point is that those ppl stayed and shouldn't be punished because of what the others did.

exactly...i agree...
If they're lebanese then why should they be persecuted for their religious beliefs, especially since they're anti-israeli.

I didn't mean that they are prosecuted like that, but there is some..uh..."ignorance"(not that there is any in this forum) when it comes to the jews in lebanon, they are very often confused with zionists by the somewhat less educated, therefore it's important that we make sure that everyone knows the differance between the two so that they can live a normal life and we don't come out as an anti-semetic nation.

Re: The Forgotten

This is sad...They have the right to be the country as anyone else and it is a duty of religious leaders of other sects and religious to raise conciousness among their bases and followers that Israel is a temporary enemy at best and the doctrines and followers of Judiasm are not, should not, be their enemy and target of hatred and bigotry...

Not only to blame religious leaders, the second part is public education and the way children are raised to think....

I personally think that Lebanese Jews can be a great medium too for solutions in Lebanon....the middle ground which is so badly needed...

Peace

Actually, it's not the religious leaders fault, even though it's they who can change things. It's just that sometimes people use the word "jews" instead of the word "zionists" when refering to the israelis, when their children hear them saying "jews" then a kid wouldn't tell the differance between the two and grows up thinking that way.

I didnt actually say they are the reason..but with their power of changing the way the masses think, inaction is a sort of sharing the blame...so we basically agree that they , along with an appropriate educational system, can change things...
