Torrent download solution
Hello there,
As we all know regardless where we live in Lebanon the connection is known to be crappy. I am not talking about stability but about speed. This thread may interests heavy downloaders mainly the ones who rely on torrent as a main source to get their files from. I got a Virtual Private Server a week ago and i am discovering lot of wonderful things. I was looking for an important file like 2 months ago and i couldn't find it anywhere but as torrent file so i tried to figure out how to get it until this morning i thought about installing a torrent client on my VPS to download the files i want then i can download them via http later on since i cannot cross the 10kb/s downloading from torrent in great times on my normal connection. So the idea was to download whatever file i want from torrent to my own server at a very high speed (i am reaching 1mb/s sometimes) then re-download it from an http link as any other file. I am on centos 5 and using ctorrent as a torrent client. I know not everyone has knowledge in such thing but the people who do have servers can take this as a useful tip to get their files from torrent. I hope this thread was useful :) |

bas when am @ work, i get a download speed of 400 K for torrents dunno how and why:p sometimes it reaches less than 5 KB/s, bas usually it is always very fast bas what U mentioned is a very nice tip my question is, how do U get a Virtual Server? by da way, Ur avatar Salbe:D |

That's why the download speed varies. As for the VPS. there are plenty of companies that provide VPS for acceptable prices. However consider that you will need some linux knowledge to proceed in such thing. Glad you liked the avatar :P |

xcoder, i have a hosting plan, the same one used for vcoderz.com, (netfirms advantage, linux hosting 4D)

instead of a vps u can host a php script to leech the torrent (Same as rapidkill). there was one developped for torrents but forgot the name :P

it's called rapidleech, i tried it on vcoderz before and the download speed was only 7kb/s which is nothing big.
However if you wish to download torrent files to your server it's impossible to do it with a hosting plan even if you got SSH access it's very limited. VPS is your own system you can remove and add anything you want :D And it's not that expensive in fact, you can get a small one for something like 20$/month but you better not host big stuff on it. |

I use utorrent, and usually am at 6 kB/s
I downloaded a program which makes me download faster..it worked! At first It used to be below 1 kB/s I know 6 kB/s is still slow..but i let my computer open all day.. I have downloaded tons of times stuff worth 2 GB usually it takes one week..and am patient :tongue: |

I have Bitcomet ,and i download lots of stuff from mininova.org
my download speed is stable 30 kb/s i have downloaded 7 movies till now :D |
