Microsoft is releasing 5 new OSs
 

Well Windows 7 is out but here are still 5 new Operating systems coming out where 3 of them are open source systems. the OSs are:

1. Windows 8 (Windows 7 Successor)
2. Windows Midori (Written entirely in managed code)
3. Windows Singularity (Basically the same as Windows Midori)
4. Windows Azure (Cloud Computing OS)
5. Barrelfish (Multicore OS)


About Windows 8:

Windows 8 will have a completely new interface. This has been confirmed by now. Rumors say that they will even replace the Windows Explorer with something totally new. Because the Windows 7 filesystem is very slow they also plan to include a brand new filesystem. Tests showed that the current Windows 7 filesystem is even slower than XP.

Windows 7 is using a lightweight kernel called “MinWin”, which will be used in Windows 8 as well. According to an interview with Eric Traut (Microsoft Engineer) the Windows kernel is by now 12-15 years old. It will have to be replaced at some point in time.

Not many know that Microsoft has been working on a completely new OS (for nearly two years now) that includes a brand new kernel and is written entirely in managed code (more secure).

Anyway i want to ask the ones who are currently using win 7, since here it's said "Tests showed that the current Windows 7 filesystem is even slower than XP"

This is not true. And both are NTFS. So lol.

Anyways, about the managed code, I can feel the challenge this creates for hackers! But that doesn't really make it secure. Just more secure.
The computer world is going toward "visualization".

how about making it open source 4D ?! maybe when pigs fly :P

I hate new oses
they are designed for the main purpose of forcing you to buy a new PC, or to buy more and more hardware
this is how I feel about it
instead of working towards faster technologies, they are making bulkier softwares, and your PC takes half an hour to finish rebooting

The Microsoft concept contradicts with open source.
Windows will always lead the market of OS,

U have to consider the human nature,
Anything new makes people afraid, Microsoft is in peoples heads since more than 20 years, they offer great support easy interface,
Talking from marketing wise, Microsoft is the best, and they are playing the game very well.

Linux is totally free + free support and it is still way behind Microsoft,
Nor Google neither i don't know who will be competitive with Microsoft, these are dreams
