What Operating System (OS) do you like the most?
 

Hello folks,

What operating system do you have installed on your machine(s)?
What kind of work do you do most on it?
Why did you choose it?
What are the advantages?
What are the disadvantages?

Make a comparison between operating systems if you want.

Please be objective, we don't want MS Windows haters nor Mac OS fanatics.

I am using xp, I tried 7, it ate my system resources and was not anymore special than xp, so I went back to xp :p

I've been using windows for all my life and I'm currently on windows 7, the best of all. I do everything with it video center, internet, office work, games, more internet, and music.
I tried once Linux Ubuntu 10.04 on a virtual machine, it was really nice and fast but it's not the OS for me, I can't play games on it and I don't think some of my engineering programs will work on it (I didn't search actually) so I never installed it to use it.
I'm not a fan of the iOS, never fully tried it though, I really hate itunes.

i can't imagine myself not relying on a windows machine as my main one. i use windows 7 and i almost never had a complaint. i've seen Mac OS and i loved it, but i wouldn't buy one unless i have too much money that i don't know what to do with.

I use multiple operating systems at the same time and currently making some changes.
My main OS will become Linux Ubuntu 11.04 with Windows 7 in VirtualBox.
Will keep using OS X Lion as a secondary operating system.

So basically i have my local server + production computer using Ubuntu and OS X Lion on my Mac machine.

As for my servers, i use Centos5.x, Ubuntu Server 10.4 LTS and Debian.

Windows 7 is the best that Microsoft has ever done. it is beautiful and very agile and still secure for now. No need to format it anymore, just don't be stingy in hardware, hardware is already cheap.

I also like sometimes to work on Linux, however to my opinion linux is becoming more and more ugly, the favorite linux I loved is the REDHAT 6 ( pre-enterprise era ) even though it lacked a lot of drivers support.
all the new ones are loaded with driver support but are desperately trying to imitate windows when it comes to desktop GUI and they are failing to do so ....

why immitate windows !! be original, do something new, now I know you can compile your own distro but I am not up to this level so I can't do that nor I am fascinated by linux desktop K or Gnome, even the old Gnome RedHat 6 looked better than nowadays linux.

Besides, why there's no place in Lebanon that has all linux distros yet ?! I go to da7ieh a lot, however I can't find but ubuntu !! damn !! it hurts. besides why aren't their an ACTIVE linux community in Lebanon.

I remember they created a linux group in my university that is connected to LLUG but when I saw their demo and came to talk to them about it, I realized that they were nothing but a bunch of typical Lebanese mentalities who don't help nor have time to cooperate or spend to teach others and spread the word about linux and last I knew, they weren't near knowledgeable at all !! and if someone knows something, they don't tell you about it.

I hope one day I can find and meet people who are interested in Linux where we can share info and learn from each others.
