hard drive shortages
I messaged pcandparts yesterday asking why hard disk prices are so expensive now, the 2 terra I bought last year for 70$ is now being sold for 240$ and above... and they replied with a link to an article, this article
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-205_162-...ive-shortages/ this is terrible... I also feel bad for the people of thailand that were struck by the disaster of course... |
Last summer I bought a 2 TB Seagate hard drive for 130$, it seemed a reasonable price to me...
|
the one I got was an internet 5900 rpm hard drive, the cheapest you could buy, not an external, not slim, etc... what was the one you bought?
the 2 terrabyte internet 5400 rpm is not for 200$, less quality more price. if we look at external disks and USB powered disks. external 2 terrabyte disks easily shoot above 200$, not even with a wireless or a fire wire or any special settings, just the storage edit: link to pcandparts http://pcandparts.com/price.htm I am comparing prices from there between now and about 8 month ago I also wish I could find a 2 terra for 140$ :p |
mine is an external hard disk (with power)... I remember there was another Seagate external hard disk 1 TB (without power) for the same price...
|
WTF i was on PC and Parts checking prices and was like wtf is goin on here and why the f are HDD so expensive and then i started questioning my memory and searching my inbox for old bills.
Thank you for the link, real bad news for everyone. |

who uses HDD these days?
Switch to SDD..expensive but perfect |
uh, everybody does
I don't exactly know what SDD is, but I am looking for cost efficiency, which is why I buy big storage, with slow spin speed and no cache :P to get the most bytes for every dollar. I'm not willing to throw more than 100$ a year on my computers, in fact I already consider 100$ a year as too much expenditure for something I'm throwing away in 5 years(never had a hardware yet that has lived more than this... except my 15 years old speakers :p ) |
