Time Travel!

Do u think it's possible ?
to the future its proven scientifically 100% by general relativity..
to the past kamen its proven bas its kinda harder to accept and understand, what do you think ?
(please read a little bit of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_tr...ast_in_physics before you reply)
talk theory not application !
and please no replies like "god wouldnt let us" or "the time fairy will catch us"!
this is not in any way contradictory with any religion or belief .. well it kinda is bas that's not the subject here, so keep this topic purely scientific..
if you wanna tackle it philosophically (like the grandfather paradox: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grandfather_Paradox ) thats cool:P
waitin for ur replies!!

Re: Time Travel!

Time is defined as being the fourth dimension of our universe. The other three dimensions are of space, including up-down, left-right and backward-forward.
Time cannot exist without space, and likewise, space cannot exist without time. This interconnected relationship of time and space is called the spacetime continuum, which means that any event that occurs in the universe has to involve both space and time.

According to Einstein's theory of special relativity, time slows as an object approaches the speed of light. This leads many scientists to believe that traveling faster than the speed of light could open up the possibility of time travel to the past as well as to the future. The problem is that the speed of light is believed to be the highest speed at which something can travel, so it is unlikely that we will be able to travel into the past. As an object nears the speed of light, its relativistic mass increases until, at the speed of light, it becomes infinite. Accelerating an infinite mass any faster than that is impossible, or at least it seems to be right now. But time travel in the other direction is not as difficult, and the future may one day be a possible destination...

(Btw i m taking all this in a physics course in uni & it is very interesting...)

Well, Read This:

Tourism in time
Stephen Hawking once suggested that the absence of tourists from the future constitutes an argument against the existence of time travel—a variant of the Fermi paradox. Of course this would not prove that time travel is physically impossible, since it is might be that time travel is physically possible but that it is never in fact developed; and even if it is developed, Hawking notes elsewhere that time travel might only be possible in a region of spacetime that is warped in the right way, and that if we cannot create such a region until the future, then time travelers would not be able to travel back before that date, so "This picture would explain why we haven't been over run by tourists from the future."
O_o Well, The Idea That We Don't Have Tourists From The Future Is The Thing That Convince Me That There's No Time Travel To The Past... But I Think That Time Travel To The Future Might Be Possible :Tawa: Because Of The Relativity That Einstein Prooved :S

There is a complicated problem with time travel called paradoxes. A paradox is defined as something that contradicts itself. Here are two common examples:
  • Let's say that you could travel back to a time before you were born. The mere fact that you could exist in a time before you were born creates a paradox. If you were born in 1960, how could you exist in 1955?
  • Possibly the most famous paradox is the grandfather paradox. What would happen if a time traveler went back and killed one of his or her ancestors before the traveler was born? If the person killed his or her grandfather, then how could that person be alive to go back and kill his or her grandfather? If we could change the past, it would create an infinite number of paradoxes.
The idea here is that every action causes the creation of a new universe, and that there are an infinite number of universes that exist.

Confused or not yet? Welcome to the world of time travel. Just imagine how complicated the ticket prices will be. O_o

uhh i think its travelling CLOSE to the speed of light not faster than it allows future time travel no ? faster would be for going back in time ! bas i think that this theory doesnt solve going back in time, bas if the string theory was true, its possible, w kamen the wormhole theory sounds interesting bas i find it kinda complicated :S

this is a scam :P
do u study anything about wormholes or the string theory 8-) ?

Re: Time Travel!

string theory :hawhaw:
once i read that u can only c the future , but moving is impossible...
however i heard of the black hole if u get into it soo fast , u can jump into future, time travel thing is funny :D , string theory and black hole :p

Re: Time Travel!

my opinion : it's simply non-sense and illogical .. and don't tell me talk theory not application, because application is the interpretation of theories, when we can't interpretate a theory it means that this theory cannot be applicable ..

Re: Time Travel!

Basically Long story short... I agree with El-Meghwoir (but not with his crew lool)... what r we 2 make of the time travel paradoxes, such as goin' back in time n killin' one's own grandfather n bla bla bla??... Assumin' that time travel cannot happen is also interestin' 2 physicists cuz it opens up the question of y & what physical laws exist 2 prevent time travel from occurring??

peace
