If he wants to insult religions he can do it in atheist countries. Not in an islamic one.
What he did was like going to the vatican and slapping the pope or swearing at jesus out loud. I couldn't care less what Noam Chomsky said. He was stating his own opinion.
SULMAN L RUDSHDI, BY INSULTING THE BELIEFS OF THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN HIS OWN COUNTRY AND TURNING THEM INTO A COMEDY HAS CROSSED THE LINES!!!!
"Insulted" is a really inappropriate word to use. Your "holy" book itself "insults" Jews, Christians and goes way further than just insult for the rest of religions. Learn from better religions than yours. Three monuments of Buddha were destroyed by the Taliban, no reaction went further than condemnation by the Dalai Lama. You have a violent, bloody, intolerant religion and you better admit it if you expect your religion to survive cultural evolution because it need LOTS and LOTS of reform to be consistent with the life of intelligent human beings of this century.

Jesus told his apostles that they should expect to be mocked for their beliefs because those beliefs won't make sense to many people. If you really believe that Islam is leading you to "heaven", and that it is the religion that will survive till the end of times, then why be so protective? Why do muslims want to hide from criticism? Ideas should compete, let them do so without spilling blood...
