Although Syria is famous for assasinations, on every assasination one have to look for who will benefit from that. Syria at that point where having huge pressure from the West and killing harriri would have meant officially kicking it from Lebanon. I think the CIA did that to cut off the Syrian existance in Lebanon, but unfortunately, not only that, also replacing Syria in Lebanon. So Lebanon as the arabic Masal says: "من هالك ل مالك ل اباض رواح" or "من تحت الدلفي ل تحت المزراب"
