ok it is possible but think who will benefit and dt overload it with un-usable features. keeping it simple and nice is gr8. For example, the main reason for the dev. is that msn keeps signing you in/out? mmm most probably this is ur connection so no matter what u develop you ll have the same problem. So you need something to convince ppl to make the switch, if u dt have such features u might spend months working on a program no1 will use. There other multi-IMs check apollo for example, it has everyth but hardly used.

Edit: I just re-read the post, why do u exactly need a server 24/24? are you going to make a protocol other than MSN? or just make a program that uses MSN protocols. If you are going to make your own chat program => (u can't add contacts from msn or yahoo) and if u cannot talk to ppl from the program u have to ppl having normal MSN/Yahoo messenger then the chances of it getting popular are really dim.
