Reports suggest Manchester United have joined the race to sign Spain international David Villa although Valencia insist they have received no bids for the striker.

Real Madrid appear to have dropped their interest in the player but Barcelona are still believed to be keen to bring the 27-year-old to the Camp Nou.

However, Valencia president Manuel Llorente told AS: "The conversations with Madrid have been paralysed since Saturday and we will now calm down and take our time to assess the situation before making any decisions.

"There are other teams who are interested in Villa but for the time being there have been no more offers for the player.

"I have been in charge for all of five days and we have put ourselves in the eye of the storm because everyone thinks that Valencia will sell all their players, but nothing could be further from the truth."
