I agree, but always there is exceptions.
When You learn truly how to give for free, when you learn truly how to love, you will never expect something in return.
If you are doing something for people bcuz u really love them, then you are not supposed to be waiting something in return
I agree with mr_j on this one. Nothing is free.
When you love someone you will do anything to make them happy.
Why? Because it make you happy.
If it didn't then you wouldn't care less about pleasing the one you love.

You make them happy (give) + They make you happy (receive) = Love (trade).

This is something that everyone eventually realizes but they never really admit it to themselves (sometimes, me included), instead they choose to believe the "lie" called love instead of the truth.

Have you ever asked yourselves why we feel? Why we love, hate, fear, cry and laugh? Why we feel pain and pleasure?
It's because we are too stupid to be without emotions.
Think about it.
If we didn't feel pain then we would stand on fire and get burned.
If we didn't feel pleasure, then things like sex and food would be uninteresting. We wouldn't have sex which would eventually lead us to extinction. We wouldn't eat as often and if we didn't feel hunger then we'd starve.
If we didn't hate and fear, then we wouldn't stay away from those who harm us.

And love is just another one of those feelings, love gets us closer to each other.
You love your partner and your partner loves you: When you're in love you will stay together, and have a kid, and one of you will work and the other will stay at home to take care of the kid.
You love your parents and they love you: When your a little kid and can't take care of yourself they'll take care of you. And when they're old and fragile you'll take care of them.

Emotions are a system meant to keep us alive.
The ones that feel good are the ones we get when we do something that benefits us.
The ones that feel bad are the ones we get when we do something that harms us.

Now I'm not saying that love is a bad thing, it clearly has it benefits, but the feeling isn't selfless.
