AS Roma earned their first victory of the season in Claudio Ranieri's opening game at the helm with a last-gasp 2-1 win at AC Siena while a 1-0 success at Atalanta BC continued UC Sampdoria's perfect start.
Siena opener
Luciano Spalletti's tenure at Roma came to an end after back-to-back league defeats to begin the season and the trend appeared unlikely to be reversed when Massimo Maccarone gave Siena a 26th-minute lead. But the tide began to turn with 17 minutes remaining when Philippe Mexes levelled and the Bianconeri were then reduced to ten men when Paul Codrea was dismissed. The Giallorossi made their numerical advantage count in the final minute when substitute John Arne Riise fired in a free-kick.
Signings deliver
Champions Inter also required patience and had two summer signings to thank for their 2-0 win at home to Parma FC. Samuel Eto'o punctured the visitors' resistance on 71 minutes with a spectacular curling shot and Diego Milito also fired his second goal in three Nerazzurri matches with a late effort. Inter remain two points adrift of pacesetters Juventus and UC Sampdoria after the latter claimed a third straight success in Bergamo. They were forced to rally with ten men after Fernando Tissone was sent off on 52 minutes but overcame the adversity through a 63rd-minute winner from Daniele Mannini.
Di Natale treble
Fiorentina have seven points after Alberto Gilardino's goal edged out Cagliari Calcio while Antonio Di Natale spearheaded Udinese Calcio to a first win of the season, scoring a hat-trick as the Friulani twice came from behind to beat Calcio Catania 4-2. Finally, AC Chievo Verona took their first points with a 2-0 win at Bologna FC and US Cittą di Palermo drew 1-1 with AS Bari. Genoa CFC host SSC Napoli in the late game.
