Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney hopes to make a remarkable recovery and play a part in the Champions League quarter-final second-leg against Bayern Munich.

According to the Sunday Mirror, the crocked England international doesn’t want to miss another important game, after sitting out the Red Devils table topping home defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

It is rumoured that Rooney will ask Sir Alex Ferguson to include him in the midweek squad, as United attempt to overturn their 2-1 deficit against the German club and reach the final four of Europe's premier club competition.

It was revealed on Friday that Rooney would be unavailable for between two to three weeks with a severely twisted ankle, however he is known for his speedy recovery from injury and will be aiming to add to his season's 34-goal haul as soon as possible.

Rooney has until Tuesday to prove his fitness, although it is expected that Ferguson will be reluctant to risk his most valuable asset with a handful of games remaining in the Premier League season.

Although Rooney was sorely missed during the defeat to Chelsea at Old Trafford, defender Nemanja Vidic believes someone else should pick up the gauntlet, admitting he expects more from his team-mates.

Vidic said: “It’s not just about one man. Definitely Wayne [Ronney] has had a great season. He is unbelievable – one of the best in the world.

“But sometimes big players are missing and others need to be ready.”
