HTML5 has made a significant improvement and could make the web more friendly and easier for developers mainly to make that possible.

However as you have noticed Internet Explorer keeps pushing back making any improvement pain in the neck and very slow.

As you can notice also that HTML5 is not well supported by the rest of the browsers but will soon and the gab between them and IE will remain big.

However unlike many of web developers i hardly believe that HTML5 will actually kill Adobe Flash, there's an important difference between both even with Canvas. Developing flash-like utilities in Javascript isn't as simple as ActionScript not to forget the improvements Adobe has done in its latest releases and will continue adding.
