"Religious" people are precisely the people that should be blamed, I'm saying this as a religious person myself.
Religious conduct and has been overshadowed by tradition, and traditional taboos are mistaken for religious sins.
Speaking on behalf of my religion, I can say that from a religious point of view, virginity means absolutely nothing. But since our society thinks virginity is worth more than diamonds, the "religious" have changed the religion and added a new rule that says that non-virgins are filthy. So if you ask imams about virginity, 9/10 will condemns marrying a non-virgin.
Same thing goes for sex itself, in all of the hadith I've read, nowhere is sex classified as a shameless act. In fact, the contrary is true, sex is seen as good act.
And yet the "religious" people condemn sex.
So if you're religious, don't make excuses for the "religious". Only thing you will be making excuses for is the corruption of your religion and ignorance.
