Dude? You really think that we are in first generation touch phones? We are in third most probably. Nokia phones have a very stupid ui, stupid browser, stupid applications You are concerned about typing, why don't you see videos of swype and blindtype? I'm currently using swype and I can't be any happier, and it is very tolerable for errors.
About dropping the phone, buy a cover.
