Search on Google for a software called NTFS 3G for Mac. Download the software and install it. You'll be able to open an NTFS volume on Mac with read and write privilege. Remember that you have to do this on every mac you want to use your HDD on it.

The ultimate solution is to copy the entire content of you HDD to the OS that recognize you HDD, then use Disk Utility in Mac to format your HDD as MS-DOS FAT, this will allow you to use your HDD on mac and windows without any problem.
