Wayne Rooney has claimed he will still be a Manchester United player when he reaches his thirties after admitting to being angered by speculation that he will leave Old Trafford this summer. Rumours over Rooney’s long-term future have been rife in Manchester since his acrimonious contract stand-off with the club last October, which ultimately led to the 25 year-old committing himself to a new £160,000-a-week five-year contract. Suggestions that Rooney’s decision to publicly question United's ambition led to a cooling of relations inside the dressing room have lingered, while many supporters believe that his new contract merely delayed an inevitable departure and will enable the club to secure a higher fee if, or when, he is transferred. Despite the speculation, Rooney has shown signs of a return to the form that made him such a key figure for United last season. Rooney insists that he is now determined to silence the whispers once and for all. “My relationship with Sir Alex [Ferguson] has no problems whatsoever,” Rooney said. Rooney admits he has become increasingly irritated by those questioning his commitment. “Yes, you get angry,” he said. “On Sunday I didn’t even know it was in a newspaper until I was on the way home from training. I stopped off at the garage to get petrol and a few people asked me if I was leaving in the summer. I’ll be here until I’m in my thirties though, that’s for sure.”
