Former
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has reignited a heated debate with current players
Philipp Lahm and
Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The 42-year-old's response comes just days after the Germany midfielder said Kahn was usually upset by criticism he received as a player.
Schweinsteiger was reacting to comments made by Kahn, who recently questioned his leadership abilities at the Allianz Arena.
However, the former goalkeeper has now retaliated as the dispute continues.
"I was upset by the previous criticisms [from Schweinsteiger]," Kahn told
Kicker.
"However, what both players should do now is try and take the next step in their development.
"But in Germany this is difficult to achieve as is expected from leaders."
"This discussion about leadership is difficult to have in Germany because there is so much emotion and controversy surrounding it. It's not about loudness or alpha-male swagger."
Schweinsteiger was recently linked with a €25 million move with Italian champions AC Milan, who are looking for a midfielder.
