Bale signs four-year Tottenham extension
The Wales international is set to stay in north London after penning a new deal with Spurs and wants to help the club return to the Champions League

Tottenham have announced that Gareth Bale has signed a new four-year deal that will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2016.

The Wales international has long been linked with a move away from the club with both Manchester United and Barcelona reported to be interested in signing the 22-year-old, but he has now committed his future to the north Londoners.

“I’ve been here for five years now and I’ve enjoyed every minute. The fans have been great to me and I’d love to re-pay them and do the very best for them,” he told the club’s official website.

“The club is progressing and I want to be a part of that, so it was great to get the deal done.

"I love the club and the fans and I want to play my part in trying to get us back into the Champions League - where we belong. We have a good, young squad and we need to work together to get back on the biggest stage again."

Bale joined Tottenham in 2007 from Southampton and has gone on to become one of their most influential players. He made 47 appearances last season, scoring 15 goals, as Spurs finished fourth in the Premier League.
