Bayern Munich closing in on Basel's Xherdan Shaqiri

Bayern Munich are on the verge of completing the summer transfer of Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri from Basel, with a fee in the region of €10-12 million set to be agreed, Kicker reports.

The Bavarians have long been linked with a move for the young winger, and could allegedly secure the 20-year-old's services by the end of the week.

Jupp Heynckes' side had initially set their sights on Borussia Monchengladbach star Marco Reus, but the Germany international opted to sign with Borussia Dortmund instead.

Therefore, the Bundesliga giants turned their attention to attacking midfielder Shaqiri, and they have now reportedly agreed terms with Basel over a transfer at the end of the 2011-12 campaign.

Shaqiri's agent recently claimed Bayern would be the ideal destination for his client, citing that the player's development could only continue abroad. And earlier this month, the 20-year-old's former coach, Thorsten Fink, recommended Swiss starlet to the Bayern board.

The parties involved are expected to iron out the final details in the upcoming days, and according to the report, the deal should be wrapped up before Basel and Bayern meet in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie on February 22
