Shankaboot– the world’s first Arabic webdrama – takes us into the beating heart of modern Beirut street life through the eyes of Suleiman, our 15 year old, happy-go-lucky delivery boy. Along for the ride are the beautiful Ruwaida and the mysterious Chadi, along with a host of other memorable characters.

I watched all of it, up until now. Very nice Lebanese series, I recommend you to watch it.

Yes search for "Shankaboot Episode 1,2,3.." on youtube and watch it, they release a webisode every Monday, I think season 4 started already.

Shankaboot wins International Emmy award

Shankaboot, the world’s first Arabic-language web drama series, has been awarded an International Digital Emmy.


The online drama, which is set and filmed in Lebanon, saw off competition from productions from the UK, the Netherlands and Brazil to win the ‘Digital Program (Fiction)’ category.

A partnership for innovation

Launched in March 2010, Shankaboot forms part of a project aimed at promoting social responsibility across media in the Middle East. The online series was produced in partnership with Lebanon-based Batoota Films.

“We realised the potential of online social media, but the content required us to find a dynamic local production house with the same innovative approach” says BBC WST Project Director Michael Randall “Choosing the right partner in Lebanon was essential, and we found the perfect partner in Batoota.”

The BBC WST supported Batoota in helping to develop the concept, and the storytelling skills required to produce a web drama.

“Most people associate Lebanon with war and sectarian conflict, but Shankaboot has nothing to do with politics. It's about the spirit of Beirut and the love of its people. This award is another testimony to the growing power of social media and the youth in the Arab world”, says Katia Saleh, producer of Shankaboot and director of Batoota Films.


The drama, fronted by first time actor Hassan Akil, combines witty social observations with an edgy shooting style and naturalistic acting.

Youth appeal

The heroes of Shankaboot are ordinary people who are confronted by familiar dilemmas. Their efforts to overcome these challenges have struck a chord with young audiences across the Arab world.

Over the last 12 months the multiplatform series has gained a widespread following, with fans accessing episodes and content through its website, YouTube and Facebook.

The drama’s popularity hasn’t been limited to Lebanon, uniting audiences in countries such as Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the US.

In November 2010 Shankaboot won the Reflet d’Or for Best Web Series at the Cinema Tous Ecrans festival in Geneva.
