US issues new warning over piracy

China and Russia have topped a list of 12 nations not doing enough to tackle copyright piracy, according to a US trade report.



The Bush administration placed the 12 on a "priority watch list" which will subject them to extra scrutiny.
The Office of the US Trade Representative said piracy is costing the country billions of dollars.
The US Government has already reported China to the World Trade Organisation over alleged unfair trade practices.
These charge the country with unfairly raising trade barriers and failing to enforce its laws protecting American copyrights and patents.
In addition to Russia and China, the 10 countries placed on the priority watch list were Argentina, Chile, Egypt, India, Israel, Lebanon, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and Venezuela.

The annual report, known as a Special 301 Report, for the section of US trade law that it covers, said that China has a special stake in upgrading its protection of intellectual property rights, given that its companies will be threatened by rampant copyright piracy as they increase their own innovation.
For Russia, the report said the US will be closely watching to see how it fulfils the commitments it made to upgrading copyright protection as part of a US - Russia accord reached last year.
This was seen as a key milestone in Russia's efforts to join the World Trade Organisation.
US Trade Representative Susan Schwab said in a statement accompanying the report: "Innovation is the lifeblood of a dynamic economy here in the U.S. and around the world,
"We must defend ideas, inventions and creativity from rip-off artists and thieves."
The Motion Picture Association of America estimates that it lost about $2.3bn in revenue in China due to pirating in 2005, saying only 10% of DVDs sold there were legal.


Massive losses

"Today's report indicates the scope of global piracy and serves as a sobering reminder of the challenges ahead," MPAA chairman and CEO Dan Glickman said.
"The strength and competitiveness of our economy is powered by our ideas and creativity."
The US games industry estimates global piracy cost it more than $4bn in 2004, not including losses from net piracy.
Another 31 countries were placed on lower level monitoring lists, indicating the concerns about copyright violations in those nations did not warrant the highest level of scrutiny.
The European Union has also asked to participate in the World Trade Organization talks over issues of copyright and trademark policy in China.

very surprisingly, israel, the #1 american allie, is on the list but they still get 12 billion dollars a year from the american gov...
piracy is more on the internet not in the streets (where you buy vista ultimate for 2000LL).
they should fight piracy over the internet not punish the countries.
i think that a good connection (i'm talking about some MBit/S or more) and a rapidshare account (55 euros/year) will make anyone the king of warez and piracy, will make him watch everymovie (free), play every game (free) and use the latest most sofisticated softwares (also for free), ow, i forgot the 55 euros. not much are they?

Actually when you see the price of some apps and the money the devellopers are getting you don't feel guilty about pirated copies bass uno when I started programing and I learned how much time and work it takes, I kind of feel guilty if I get a crack for an app made by a small company or a develloper

But this is so wrong


Warez is about sharing with your friends so they can enjoy the latest movies, games, albums, ... And paying for a rapidshare account wont get you much when you have a X Mbps connection, because nothing important is uploaded to rapipdshare , or maybe will be uploaded after some time from it's pre time, (fast torrents is better when it comes to Mbps connections). The real king of warez is the ones who are in release groups. To get the best from warez are FTP servers and usenet.

Now sorry for drifting away from the topic ...
Release groups make cracks and key generators to remove protection, for a higher reason, than only getting stuff for free . They do it to show companies that make the product that they can remove the protcetion, and to show them that they should do a better job the next time (And BTW isnt Warez a free advertisement for all pirated produtcs ).
And for the record, that IF YOU HAVENT NPTOCED many groups put in their NFO that ppl should buy the product if they like it, because the companies really spend alot of time and hard work to make these apps and games, and the release groups just make them available to you for free.

no one cares if he would play a game today or next week, beleive me.
so the Usenet and ftp things aren't that imprortant. a user would like to play a game, watch a movie, use a software. a delay of 3 hours or 2 weeks is not gonna make a difference.

second, i've read many nfo's for many groups. yeah they say "if you use this software, but it", but i think that 90% of the people dont read the nfo, and 70% dont even know how to open it (with notepad:P for those who dont know)
we may have drifted off topic, but the point is, warez and piracy is much more over the internet.
no reason for deleting any post.
