Default Hamburg Make Short Work Of Juventus

In the second matchday of the Emirates Cup, Hamburger SV handed Juventus a harsh 3-0 defeat, with the last two goals only coming in injury time.

Following yesterday's win over Arsenal in the Emirates Cup, today Juventus lost their second game in the competition to Hamburger SV 3-0. Especially in the first half, the Old Lady looked tired and short of ideas in midfield, even though the result is perhaps a bit harsh.
There was also bad news concerning defender Dario Knezevic, who sustained a knee injury and left the pitch on a stretcher in the 10th minute of the second half. Christian Molinaro also had to leave the pitch due to injury. With Jorge Andrade out of action too, Juve will be concerned about the state of their defensive department now.
At the start of the match, the German side threatened mostly through long-range shots, which were all parried by substitute goalkeeper Antonio Chimenti. In the 18th minute, a mistake by defender Nicola Legrottaglie allowed José Paulo Guerrero to open the score with a left-footed shot.
Juve struggled badly to create danger with their only creative midfielder, Mauro Camoranesi, not yet looking in top physical shape. Twice Hamburg failed to increase their lead as they first squandered a counterattack with 3 men against 1, and later Mohamed Zidan shot the ball wide with only Chimenti to beat.
In the second half the Bianconeri improved and Amauri came close with a great header on a cross by captain Alex Del Piero which was saved by Frank Rost, but each time the Germans counterattacked there was danger for the Juve defence.
In the 72nd minute Claudio Ranieri decided do introduce Vincenzo Iaquinta for Albin Ekdal, which meant Juve were playing with three strikers. Although it nearly paid dividends, as Iaquinta missed an easy chance and Camoranesi saw a goal wrongly disallowed for offside, in the end it was Hamburg who scored again. In injury time Croatian striker Ivica Olic scored twice on the counterattack to make it 3-0 Hamburg.
