Exactly !!!

Second it does not have to relate to real life. It's used to defy , to entertain and to just give a form of art. People watch movies and like gore just for the sake of gore, not for the sake of any underlying value in the movie. At least in Metal is is associated with the music's intensity. People are just used to hear the same , very same sh*t, repeating the same words in every song in arabic and english pop and rap music, so yes something "on a more intelligent and artistic level" like metal will astound them.
Also, why do you want to listen to death metal ? Star by listening to pure heavy metal, start by appreciating the music and see why they like to play music while chanting themes about swords, wars, anything epic or just has to do with speed and power. Even "soft" themes are covered in metal. It is just a very broad music force and even lyrical force.
Only Once you get into it's branches which include blasphemies, you might want to steer away if you are completely intolerant of it. That's all. Otherwise, it's one of the few true music that has ever existed, with classical, and the hard rock that it originated from, with a couple of others.

I think that's useless especially when taking into consideration its metal.
I started listening to alternative, core, screamo music music for years before I started listening to metal. The whole point is don't attack something for stupid reasons, and if you haven't experienced it. That is more like an advice to be honest because I used to hate metal when I used to listen to the non-metal screamo stuff just because I looked at metal as some crazily-distorted unlistenable music with no enojayibility and no real value and is made only to serve Satan. Now that I listened to it and experienced it I can at least learn to judge in a fair way, right ?

Anyway, listening to metal is not the point here. Give "good music" a listen. I don't necessarily mean that rap, or any of that sort can't have good musicians or artists; it's just that rap is destined to be a dead genre. It is very limited and cannot exand. If you want to at least change your view on music listen to good rock bands like Rainbow, Deep Purple, Dream Theater, Pink Floyd, Muse (The first metal bands that I listened to). You might hate them but you would at least open your mind on new music and new genres and new ideas instead of listening to what the media disctates to you.
The bottom line is: If you don't have passion to explore music, no one can help you. The same way if you don't have passion to explore movies or any other serious form of art.
