I had to have some experience with this W7 and now I can say I don't like it at all! I used it only for some tasks, then I saw that it is not for me and downloaded windows XP and MS Office 2k3 (it wasn't so easy with their IE 8) and device drivers (yes it was hard to find drivers for new PC, but I solved this problem which is a good luck I think).

I did not try windows 7, but I read about it on wikipedia(if that counts as anything) I did not like the description, I am sticking with windows xp as far as possible(the new direct x may no longer be compatible with vista though )

anyway from what I rad, it still needs quite alot of ram compared to xp and system resources...lachou

now from vista to windows 7, I would recommend that, because I heard it uses less system resources.

Yes surely, Vista is a fail at all.

I didn't check on the whole thread, but anyway, specify. Additionally, Windows 7 runs fairly good on 512 MB RAM. It's related with the ways of use.

If possible, I'd recommend the upgrade. After all, those are Microsoft products initially meant for easy use.

Furthermore, vista, failure? Define failure. Windows Vista was at that time, a systematical change, which, in fact, I consider it stronger than the 98-XP jump. But, even with made-easy products, people fail to know how to use it - the moment when flaming begins. Vista lacks so much, yes, but didn't fail.

if u can stick to windows XP then do it coz neither Vista nor win7 are better
thats from my point of view. win7 32bit lacks a lot of compatibility with a lot of applications (at least that's what im experiencing and u have to spend a lot of time just downloadin stuff to make ur application or program run normally and thats the case if u find what ur lookin for! e.g: i need to install sql server 2008, which works perfectly on XP, to my win7 i had to look for a frameworks with a SP, i found it but it wont install on win7 many ppl are facing the same problem as i am)
so u decide

huh ? I have sql server 2008 installed and everything is working fine. Service Packs bring upgrades, enhancements and security fixes. I can't believe you don't want to install it because you have to get an SP.

Win7 brings lots of features, security and enhancements. If you want to stay with an O/S that is over 10 years then all the best to you guys. But sooner or later software will no longer run on XP and you will have to upgrade. Yes win7 requires better hardware, and for some it might be expensive but its 2010 and technology is moving ahead. Soon you will find it hard to find 32bit operating systems, or software.

Tinman im trying to install SQL 2008 on my win7... it stops as soon as i start the process by telling me that .net framework 3.5 is not installed on my pc! u can check the programs list on my and find that 3.5 is already installed since im using VB 2008 and i also ran a verification program that shows that 3.5.1 is installed.... what do u think of that??
