Ribery injury relief
French star could return in under two weeks

Relief was the order of the day at Bayern on Sunday on the news that Franck Ribéry has been spared a long injury lay-off. The French winger sustained nothing worse than a knee sprain – in medical terms an articular capsule strain trauma of the left knee – in Saturday’s Bundesliga restart fixture away to Wolfsburg, and could return to action in under two weeks if the injury heals normally.

“I’m happy and also relieved,” commented Ribéry following an examination on Sunday morning by FCB medical chief Dr Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt. The 27-year-old striker reported to the Doc on crutches after “a sleepless night” and with “strong pain”.

Ribéry has been ordered not to train at all for the next five days, and is thus definitely out of contention for next Saturday’s home meeting with Kaiserslautern on Bundesliga matchday 19. He is also doubtful for the DFB Cup quarter-final clash away to second division Alemannia Aachen on 26 January, but could be fit in time for the league trip to Bremen three days later.

The winger had only just recovered full fitness after a long lay-off in the autumn and had set his sights high for the second half of the campaign. He was substituted midway through the first half of Saturday’s Wolfsburg encounter after hobbling from the field following a clattering challenge by the Wolves’ Brazilian midfielder Josue.

In comments immediately after the final whistle, FCB boss Louis van Gaal voiced fears of a “serious injury” to Ribéry, and also criticised the home side’s physical approach: “There was some borderline stuff from Wolfsburg − we have several injured players.” Sunday’s relatively mild diagnosis will come as a relief to the coach and the squad in the circumstances.

^^ watched the highlights, incredible display from Robben, Mueller, Shweinsteiger and Altintop. Blooper from Pranjic followed (after 1 second) with another from Tymoschuk made the FCK goal possible.

actually the goal was Gustavo and Tymo's mistake, Pranjic is doing a great job this season !

Default Goodbye Mark

Mark van Bommel to join AC Milan

Mark van Bommel (33) is leaving Bayern to join Italian league leaders AC Milan with immediate effect. The Dutch international requested FC Bayern Munich to release him from his contract, which was due to expire on 30 June 2011, in order to leave the club for professional reasons. After meeting to discuss the matter this morning, FC Bayern Munich AG board members Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Karl Hopfner, and director of sport Christian Nerlinger, agreed to the player’s request.

“Mark formally requested to be released from his contract before its expiry date for professional and career reasons, allowing him to join AC Milan straight away. Mark has always been a model professional, an important and successful player for FC Bayern, and an outstanding club captain too. On the basis of his service to the club, we have granted Mark’s request,” commented club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “FC Bayern Munich wishes Mark van Bommel and his family all the best for the future in Italy.”

Mark van Bommel commented: “I leave FC Bayern with a heavy heart, but with my head held high. I’ve had four and a half wonderful and successful years here, and I’d expressly like to thank the club and the fans for that. FC Bayern will always occupy a big place in my heart.“
