While I do think that nothing will happen in the short term I think his speech was the opposite of "well done". He basically told the people that he was already doing what they want (reforms) before they asked for it! That's the stupidest excuse ever! He didn't even say what he did or plans on doing! |

the syrian regime is like any other dictatorial regime , it has to go down , it is as corrupt as the Egyptian regime, and a big LOL at his speach , talking about kids having to eat is more important than anything and another big LOL at the parliment for applauding every 4 words.

Yes Bashar should go down, but not now.
If he now is out, then some one who will support USA & Israel and others will come. I think he isn't the worst, he is better then Mubarak or tunisian one.

Why Bashar should go down?
None of you in here is Syrian, so how can you judge a certain president and regime while you are not a part of it? We saw some protesters(maybe thousands of them) destroying the buildings in Syria and claiming a revolution, the next day millions of Syrians hit the streets hailing for their president and supporting him. The majority of Syrians do love their president and are satisfied with the current regime but at the same time asking for certain reforms in the regime, and the regime is working hard to satisfy them. And by the way for those smart asses who keep attacking Syrians and their regime, allow me to tell you that the regime in Syria is waaaayyyyyy more better than Lebanon and Syria has 0$ debt on the international level. The majority of the Syrians are living in a very good conditions and way better than the conditions we are living in Lebanon. So before attacking and blaming the Syrian regime who is for sure much more democratic and fair than the Lebanese regime and its institutions, work to change your rotten Lebanese regime which is the worst in the world!! ya3ne metl ma bi2oul l matal: abl ma tettalla3o 3al 2ashe b 3ein gheirkon, shoufo l khashbe l b 3younkon...

It's not what you see on TV that decide what the people want, it's the transparent elections that let the Syrian people decide whom they want without having a gun pointed to their heads. The same thing is happening in Libya, and the population wasn't living any worse than the Syrian people. Eh Lebanon is better than Syria when it comes to many things and it would be stupid to think otherwise. At least here you can blame the people for choosing the corrupted groups and you see power moving from one side to another which is totally not the case in Syria for over half a century. If that's your opinion i think you have no problem applying a similar system in Lebanon?

it is difficult to know anythign about syria, men el te3tim and everything, bas syria has many religions, like lebanon, and instability can make them start killingeach other, and at best in a revolution, they will adopt a system like ours
the current regime should fix the state as the opposition wants, iza fi fased w batalé etc... but al assad's regime is as close as any arab state can get to true independance, the second he walks out the US/israelis will be choosing the syrian leaders. the bad thing, I think, about dictatorships, is not that the people don't have political freedoms, but it's that some dictators abuse power for their personal profit and go too far, husni mubarak did not need 140 billion dollars etc... and the original point of democracy is "el mou7asabé" the idea that if a political leader disobeys the law, after he is no longer in position he gets thrown in jail. and that if he screws up, the people don't bring him back. clearly we fail at democracy
