Aichi parents questioned after baby with burns dies

NAGOYA — Aichi prefectural police on Thursday began questioning the parents of a 2-month-old baby boy who died earlier in the day after being hospitalized for burns. The father, who is a 25-year-old driver, has told police that he scalded his son with hot water because he would not stop crying, police officials said.

Police said the mother, 24, came home from shopping at around 6:50 p.m. Monday. The baby, whose body had turned red and did not stop crying, was taken to a hospital in Kariya in the prefecture. Police have yet to clarify whether the burns led to the baby's death and plan to conduct an autopsy on Friday.
