:

shoes.
transportation tools (cars,planes...).
glasses (which i wear :P).

you ppl mentioned inventions and forgot the second part of the question WHY ?

i agree with athegan about the transistor, the transistor mainly form a Microprocessor, (CPU) ,"the brain" and he activate all kinds of electronic machines and today we depend 89% on machines...

the computer was a big invention but not the second,
the second greatest inventions of all times is the GUI technology ( i think it stands for graphical user interface) and it is actually what we see in the monitor can u imagine yourself running a media player and chatting and replying here without the GUI ? or imagine airport PCs without GUI ? it's like a blind user !!!
