أعلن وزير تنمية الموارد البشرية الهندي كابيل سيبال عن تطوير أرخص كمبيوتر محمول في العالم وهو جهاز يعمل بتقنية اللمس ثمنه 35 دولارا فقط، مشيرا الى أن وزارته بدأت مفاوضات مع مصنعين عالميين للبدء في انتاج الجهاز بأعداد كبيرة.
وأوضح سيبال أن الجهاز الذي يعمل بطريقة اللمس على الشاشة مزود بمواقع لتصفح الانترنت وجهاز لقراءة ملفات "بي.دي.اف" وبرامج لمؤتمرات الفيديو وأن مكوناته مصنوعة بمرونة كافية لاستيعاب أي مكونات جديدة وفقا لاحتياجات المستخدم.
ولفت الى أن الجهاز الذي يعتمد على نظام تشغيل لينوكس من المتوقع تقديمه الي مؤسسات التعليم العالي ابتداء من العام القادم لكن الهدف هو خفض سعره الي 20 دولارا ثم الى 10 دولارات في نهاية المطاف.
وتنفق الهندي حوالي ثلاثة بالمئة من ميزانيتها السنوية على التعليم في المدارس وحسنت معدلات القراءة والكتابة الي أكثر من 64 بالمئة من جملة عدد سكانها البالغ 1.2 مليار نسمة، لكن دراسات أظهرت ان العديد من الطلاب يمكنهم بالكاد القراءة او الكتابة وان معظم المدارس الحكومية تفتقر الي تجهيزات كافية

akid there is a giant downside to this
the first one is that it clearly does not support windows, and that m7adidin what the computer can do, it can read pdf, what about .doc? .docx ? power points?etc...

This is not made for you, it's for the poor people who won't have the chance to afford a laptop/pc in their lifetime, for them this is a computer.

Great step by India. A big nation with a huge population of 1.1 billion citizen working really hard on improving itself. We really need some of that motivation in Lebanon.

They told you that the OS is GNU-Linux therefore it can handle anything.

actually, the cost of manufacturing is almost 1/3 the price of sale for end users. so 35$ for a pc is like 100$ for a PC we know, and a 100$ PC is good enough to open docs and browse the web.

there are some really cheap tablets out there for the commercial price of 150$ (or less) including a touchscreen and Wifi... for a production price tag of 35$ and a fabrication in India, i think you can manage a small computer with some abilities.
