I think its a way to express that u are annoyed or angry or even sad at a situation, I never thought of it as a bad word

It depends on the sentence your using it in...If you say "Damn, I hurt my finger" its ok...If your talking with someone and you told them "Damn you", its kind of a bad work
 Not that much of a bad word, but its a bad word for a start ...

enno it depends on its position in the sentence somtime "love" palced in a specific position can mean bad things, bad words doesnt exist only bad sentences,
