Who knows why they called the noth pole and the south pole Arctic and Antarctic? ( i've just discovered it while reading a book )

the word arctic is related to the big bear constallation that indicates geographical north.
Antarctic ---> opposite of north.

Well, in the book they said that Polar bears (and not the constellation) gave the Arctic its name. Arktos is Greek for bear. Antarctica has no polar bears, so they call it Anti-Arktos.
You were right that it had something related to bears |
