forgive/forget

ok guys here is the thing.
I was talking with a friend who broke up with his GF 2 days ago cz she lied and i asked him this question:

Forgiving someone is one thing but can you truly forget??

His answer was: i can never ever forgive, nor forget even after 20 years!

so what do you think???do you agree with him??

No one can forget, philosophically speaking.
No one can forget what happened with him, the person may not remember for a period of time, but this is not called forgetting!
About the forgive part, I totally agree with icemaker...
But here when It comes to a two lovers, maybe the thing that the gf did made the bf don't love her anymore (his feelings toward her have changed) and he can't control his fealings. You cannot oblige someone to love the other...
He might forgive her but this does not means that he might get back to her... (Not because he hate her, but because he don't love her like he used to...)

by forget I think they mean like, when you look at someone, the first thing that comes to your mind is what he did to you, even after 10 years when you see him you will instantly remember that bad thing he did
that is what not forgetting is defined here I think

I would forgive just about anything, and I have many times, you just can't go around hating people, sooner or later you have to forgive them especialy if they are in your direct enviroment(you encounter them at least once a month)

as for forgetting, I would forget anything except lies

you can curse at someone by mistake sometimes, you can hit someone by mistake anything is possible, but a lie is no mistake, this is something malicious and intentionnal

sometimes out of fear I tell a lie by mistake, but I always say the truth after I realise what I am doing
in worst cases you have to say the truth again before the day is done

that is why I do not forget a lie, someone intentionnaly wanted to hurt me to protect themselves that is what a lie is for

I can forgive almost anything, but forgetting is almost impossible.
However i believe forgiving is a very empowering thing to do and allows you to let go and move forward...

But If we didn't remember, we'd never gain the experience and wisdom that's necessary to keep us from repeating the same mistakes again and again.

If some one betrays me.I'll try forgetting him rather than forgiving him.
