أن الحكومة التايلندية أطلقت قبل حوالي سنتين مشروعا لبيع مئات الآلاف من أجهزة الحاسوب الشخصي للشعب التايلندي بأسعار منخفضة، وحاولت الحصول من شركة مايكروسوفت على أسعار مخفضة لبرامجها وأنظمة تشغيلها، فرفضت شركة مايكروسوفت ذلك، فما كان من الحكومة التايلندية إلا أن زوَّدت الأجهزة التي تبيعها للشعب بنظام تشغيل لينوكس المجاني مع بعض البرمجيات المجانية المفتوحة الأخرى مثل برنامج "ستار أوفيس" وهو يشبه في وظائفه مايكروسوفت أوفيس
ِفنجح هذا المشروع نجاحا باهرا، وباعت الحكومة حوالي 300 ألف جهاز خلال 8 أشهر، فوفرت بذلك ثمن 300 ألف نسخة وانخفضت نسبة مستخدمي نظام ويندوز فـي تايلاند إلى 40% فقط، واضطرت شركة مايكروسوفت أن تخفض سعر ويندوز في تايلاند بمقدار 85% (تصوروا كم كانت تربح قبل التخفيض؟!) فعرضته على وزارة المعلوماتية التايلندية بسعر37 دولارًا فقط، محاولة منها لاسترداد سوقها المفقود في هذه الدولة النامية الفتية
وقد ساعد على نجاح الحكومة التايلندية في هذا المشروع أن معظم الأجهزة تم بيعها لأشخاص لم يستعملوا الحاسوب من قبل، فلم تكن لديهم مشكلة التحول من ويندوز إلى لينوكس، بل بدءوا باستخدام لينوكس فورا فلم يجدوا صعوبة في ذلك؛ لأن إصداراتها تعتمد مثل نظام ويندوز على واجهة استخدام رسومية سهلة
ولا يقتصر التوفير على البرمجيات ولكنه يتعداه إلى العتاد، فقد دلت الإحصائيات علـى أن 15% فقط من الأجهزة المتوفرة في العالم تستطيع تشغيل نظام فيستا الجديد؛ فلنتصور كم ستكلف الترقية إلى فيستا، وكم ستجني شركات العتاد من هذه الترقية.

I didn't really understand if those are questions bass anyways:

Installing Linux is really easy in 99% of the cases, it's even simpler and prettier then windows, you just pop in the CD and you have a live version of the OS running, that means your system is unchanged and the OS is running from the rams, this way you can try Linux without installing it, when you finally decide to install it just click the install icon of the desktop of the live OS and a full graphical wizard will guide you through the process, veryyyy easy.

Linux is FREE, ya3n3eh 0$, you might think windows is free because it came with your PC well actually that's not true, if the version you have is genuine then 100$ or more from the cost of your machine went to Mr Gates.

Nearly every hardware has a linux driver, if not you are guaranteed to find a linux user who reversed engineered the windows one and made a Linux version.

Yes you can run games on Linux, many games run natively on Linux, and if the game is only available on windows you can run it using wine (it basically reproduces a windows environment), wine can also be used to run nearly everyyyy windows program out there.

What's not easy in Linux??

Well installing new program is not as simple as it is in windows, a lot of improvement was made and you can install many apps without touching the console but some apps still need a line of code to work.

What version should you get??

I recommend and use Ubuntu (on a virtual PC), you can download it for free from Ubuntu.com or order it for free from the website (yes they will send you a cd in the mail for free, and on the cd they will write make as many copies as you can and spread it around)

i dont want to repeat what _a has said because i could not have said it any better.
i removed linux yesterday from my pc though, i had Ubuntu 7.04 but working around the OS itself is easy, easy to find anything you want. but when it comes to install softwares and drivers, you have to open something that bites your head, that is the terminal console. WHYYY DO I HAVE TO KNOW LINUX CODES TO INSTALL A STUPID SOFTWARE? and i guess this is what's making windows smash linux in term of # of users around the globe.
btw: if u have linux, try beryl themes and effects:"D i couldn't, because of the installation complication, but if u know how to, then do it
