Default LCD vs Plasma

LCD or Plasma? It is a hard question that faces anyone who wants to buy a new HDTV (like me)…
Both have their pros and cons…
Plasma have a better contrast and on-screen motion but it fails in brighter rooms because it reflex lights, and it’s vulnerable to "burn-in"…
LCD is better if you have a bright atmosphere but it fails when it comes to rich colors and deeper blacks comparing to Plasma (the new LED technology is made to resolve this problem)
For the price: Plasma has a big advantage over LCD

Plasma screen size range from 42 inch to 65 inch and the best two brands on the market are Pioneer Kuro and Panasonic
LCD screen size range from 19 inch to 70 inch and the best two brands on the market are Sony Bravia and Samsung

They say that if you want a 50+ inch TV you should go for Plasma
And if you want a lesser size you go for an LCD

So what do you think in general is better Plasma or LCD?

After you discuss this subject in general I need your help in choosing an HDTV for my room, Budget between 1000$ - 1200$ (I can push it for 1500$ if it really really worth it…)
My room is 4m X 4m and my viewing distance will be like 3.5meters and it’s really bright in the day time but I usually watch TV in the night time… so I will go for a 32 or 40 inch if I choose LCD , or 42 inch if I choose Plasma…
Well the thing that I really need help with is the prices here in Lebanon because I don’t have a clue about them all I know is the price in the Official web sites of these brands mentioned before and I know here it will cost much more than that …
LCD : if I choose LCD I will go for Sony Bravia Z series 32 inch ( the xbr series doesn’t exist in Lebanon and to buy from Amazon.com is something new for me, you have to open a P.O box at Liban Post … ) , or I will go for Samsung series 6 32inch or 40inch …
I think LED is over budget for me…

Plasma: if I choose plasma I’ll go for Panasonic VIERA 42 inch G10 series (or G15 if it’s below budget)

So what are the prices of this TVs here in Lebanon, and what do you recommend for me?

PS: maybe in the future I will get a Playstation 3 so take that in consideration, and the thing that I watch the most on TV is Football matches…

my advice 4 u is to get either

Sony V series 40 inch 1350 $
or Sony W series 40 inch 1650 $

both are full hd, but the W has the live color creation.

but either way they are gr8 LCd Tv's for ur budget.

i would recommended to u , specially that u wana get a PS3.

i have a Sony V series the one that used to have live color creation . and Its just great. i have seen many Lcd's but playin Ps3 on Sony bravia's lcds is just way better.

dont even think about Sharp unless u wanna pay alot.
LG is not good and all those cheap brands simply suck.

the only that matches Sony in this budget is Samsung, but still sony is better.

the best i have seen is Philips and Pioneer but that if u wanna pay 6000$

Thanks for the replies guys... but what about plasma? Here in Lebanon people say that is an old and dying technology and they are always pro LCD… but after some heavy researches on the net I found out that plasma is still the king out there (correct me if am wrong )… and the best buy will be a Panasonic because Pioneer are so expensive( and they are all 50inch and above), but the question is does we have in Lebanon the Panasonic G10, G15 and V10 series ? And what is the price of 42inch G10 (or G15) Panasonic plasma? (I don’t know if there’s a less than 50inch V10 model…)

And about LCD if I will go for a 32 inch I guess it will be an easy job to pick one because the high-end 32inch LCDs of any brand are all around 1000$ …
But if I want to go for a 40 inch LCD the high-end products that Samsung and Sony offers are expensive (minimum 2000$...)

what do you think is the better TV here in Lebanon especially for the poor picture quality that our " Desh " channels offers?

One final thing : where’s the best place in Lebanon to shop for HDTVs ? going for malls ( ABC , City mall … ) or from the likes of Khoury Home , Home Line , Hokayem , Abed Tahan … or going to the vendor next door ?

LED is an LCD but with different backlight source , conventional lcd have fluorescent lamps as a backlight source that is always ON resulting in a low contrast ratio , LED lcds have a light source that can go off and on (Edge-lit LED , the most thin lcd ) or a light source that can dim (back lit LED , the most expensive ) resulting in a higher plasma like contrast ratio... in my opinion LED tvs still have many flaws and i guess the future is for OLED tvs...

about my purchase i guess this month is the best month of the year to get a tv in ( Christmas sale ) , the prices are dropped already and maybe a more drop will follow short before christmas so i'll wait for 2 more weeks, now am confused between those three models :

- panasonic plasma TH-P42S10 for 899$ ( the one advertised on the billboards right now ) new plasma tvs life span is 60 000 hrs just like any lcd...
- samsung lcd 40B550 for 1150$
- samsung lcd 40B610 for 1350$

the annoying thing about the lebanese market that it has different specs from the american models that panasonic and samsung have on their official website...

i suggest u check the Sony WE at khoury home, it has 100 000 contrast ratio , and i think 240hz, anyway man sarlak chaher ta t2arir ma bada hal2ad osit tv : P , honestly all this TV thing is a bullsh*t thing , i have a sony V series since 2 years, and i cant see any difference between the new V and mine. my friend has the X series he bought from a years and a half and same thing , theres no difference. the only difference i saw was when u switch brands, so i suggest u stay far from Lg grunding and bloomberg cuz they SUCK!
