question: why a combination of X1950XTX with a X1950?
why not 2 similar cards?

Chilehardware has posted two pictures of a motherboard based on P35 Express chipsets (code name Bearlake and scheduled to be released mid-2007) featuring four DIMM 240 pins slots compatible with DDR3 memory modules. If the number of pin is similar to the DDR2 (the DDR has 184 pin), the safety device isn't identical because of the lack of retro-compatibility.
![]() We remind you that the principal modifications of DDR3 are the voltage decrease to 1.5V from 1.8V for DDR2 and 2.5V for DDR and the prefetch increase to 8n bits instead of 2n and 4n respectively for DDR and DDR2 memory. The memory cells internal organisation has been reviewed to have a two times more important transfer rate without increasing the input / output, or external memory bus frequency. Beside the power consumption improvement, this memory will bring higher bandwidth as it will be officially available from DDR3-800 to DDR3-1600. This is two times higher than DDR2 which was available from DDR2-400 to DDR2-800. Of course, like with DDR and DDR2, some chips will provide higher performances than the official specifications and we will probably see DDR3-2000 chips which correspond to PC3-16000 (16 GB /s) memory modules. For latency, the DDR3 won't be better than the DDR2. Micron announced the following timings: - DDR3-800 : 5-5-5 to 6-6-6 - DDR3-1066 : 6-6-6 to 8-8-8 - DDR3-1333 : 8-8-8 to 10-10-10 - DDR3-1600 : 9-9-9 to 11-11-11 Of course, this correspond to clock cycles and DDR3-1600 memory with timings of 10-10-10 won't be slower than DDR3-800 in 5-5-5 because of the two times higher frequency. An important point, thought, is that DDR3-800 chips with timings of 5-5-5 will have slightly slower access time than DDR2-800 chips in 5-5-5 as memory cells will be clocked at 100 MHz in the first case and 200 MHz in the second.

P2 3700W ![]() Small-form-factor PC specialist Shuttle Inc. has squeezed Intel's quad-core Xeon X3210 processor into a 12.8 by 8.7 by 8.3-inch box -- and kept the resulting workstation compliant with the EPA's Energy Star power consumption requirements. Equipped with Microsoft's 64-bit Windows Vista Business or Windows XP Professional, the Shuttle P2 3700W can be fitted with up to 8GB of DDR-2/667 memory; 2GB and 4GB configurations rely on the 32-bit versions of the two operating systems. The storage ceiling is a whopping 2.2 terabytes (three 750GB hard drives). Prices for the P2 3700W -- the model number suffix stands for "workstation," not "watts," since the Shuttle has a 400-watt power supply -- start at $1,649 with a dual-core, 2.13GHz Xeon E3050 CPU, 128MB of memory, and ATI's 128MB FireGL V3400 graphics card. In addition to specifying the quad-core, 2.13GHz Xeon X3210 with 2x4MB of Level 2 cache, buyers can choose graphics options up to Nvidia's 512MB Quadro FX 4500. ![]() Thank You ...

Today, Nvidia announced the release of professional Quadro FX 4600 and Quadro FX 5600 cards based on G80 (already equipping the GeForce 8800).
![]() The Quadro FX 5600 is clocked at 600/800 MHz, instead of 575/900 MHz for the 8800 GTX. Memory is notably slower and the bandwidth is reduced to 76.8 GB/s. The counterpart is that the memory is two times bigger (1.5GB)! ![]() The Quadro FX4600 is the workstation equivalent of the GeForce 8800 GTS but unlike the latter the memory interface is 384 bit instead of 320 bits. Memory bandwidth will be comparable at 57.6 GB /s (instead of 59.6 GB /s). Memory and core frequencies will be respectively 600 MHz and 500 MHz. As usual, the cards will have specific drivers for 3D pro software and this explains the price of $2999 and $1995. They will be integrated and distributed in Europe and in the US by the usual partners: HP, Dell, IBM, Sun and PNY Technologies. NVIDIA also published a couple of benchmarks with Viewperf in this page.

![]() OCWorkbench has posted several photos and the specifications of the future GeForce 8600 GTS & GT based on the GPU G84. Our colleagues speak of an official announcement next April 17 followed by an immediate availability of the GTS. We will have to wait for the beginning of May to see the GT and the 8500 GT. Frequencies reported for the GTS and GT are 675/1000 and 540/700MHz. Yet, we noted that reference cards are respectively equipped with Samsung 1.1ns and 1.4ns memory… and 1.1ns memory can't officially exceed 900MHz. The GTS, 19.5 cm long, is 1.5 cm longer than the GT of the presence of a PCB embedding a 2x3 pin PCI Express power connector. It is also HDCP Ready and this will probably be the case of all GTS. For the GT, the choice of the integration of this norm will be left to the manufacturer. They will both use 128-bit memory bus. The price of the 8600 GTS will be comprised between $200 and $250 instead of $150 and $180 for the 8600 GT. These cards will respectively replace the GeForce 79xx and 76xx.

X2900 retails dklc,zsck,dlcks,
Despite several attempts of AMD/ATI to prevent the publication of pictures of the X2900 and of the final design of the card, TweakTown has published several photos of the card. To avoid showing the product brand, the picture is a bit blurry but it is possible to see the cooling system of the card which reminds us the device used by the Nvidia GeForce 8800. This isn't something that we will complain about, on the contrary! ![]()
