PS3 Overtake Xbox 360 [Global Sales]

In the battle of gaming consoles, total global sales figures for the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) gaming console has overtaken that of Microsoft Xbox 360, new data says.


According to the recently released results of a Strategic Analytics study, the PS3 has a user base of 43.4 million compared to Xbox 360’s 42.9 million.
This comes despite a recent acceleration in sales for the Microsoft-developed gaming console since last year’s release of the Kinect motion controller for the Xbox 360 system.
The Kinect has been such a big hit that it has officially clinched a Guinness World Book of Records record for the fastest-selling consumer electronics device of all time.
Still, it seems that is not enough as the Sony PS3 has a bigger user base than the Xbox as the study reveals. The PlayStation 3 also has a motion-detecting controller called the Sony Move.
However, both consoles come far behind of Nintendo’s Wii which has a global user base of 75.5 million, the study reveals.

In an ironic twist of events, the Microsoft Kinect controller for the Xbox 360 gaming console has apparently been hacked to allow it to control Sony’s PlayStation 3 gaming console.
Indian technician Shantanu Goel is credited with the hack and he has posted a video on YouTube showing his work.
It is ironic if you look at the side of Microsoft, which has developed the motion-sensing Kinect, since its hugely popular device has apparently been tweaked to work with the PS3.
However, it also is ironic when you think of Sony’s recent moves to punish those meddling with the PS3 code. Recently, there have been crackdowns on hackers fiddling with the PS3.
Sony is also trying to catch on with the success of the Kinect with its own motion-sensing controller for the PS3, the Sony Move. Microsoft’s Kinect, on the other hand, has been a huge hit, even garnering the World Guinness Book of Records title for the fastest selling consumer electronics device of all time.
There are those who doubt the video by Goel, however, saying that a wireless controller could have easily been used to fake the video.
However, Goel says that “To all who want to see my both hands or the full room or whatever, it doesn’t prove anything even if I show it to you. Someone can even be outside the room controlling it if it was fake.”
“Anyways, I will be posting a 2nd video around coming weekend with the optimizations tht I’ve done since this one. I’ll try to take a full view this time,” Goel says.

Not really, they only managed to crack the 3.40>3.55 firmwares, 3.56 and 3.60 are still secure, 3.6 revamped the whole security of the PS3 and they haven't been able to crack it yet.

I have a PS3, some of you won't get what I am talking about but buying original games is different then buying a 2000LL one! You enjoy it more and appreciate it more.

Yeah it's true but not 100%, what he did is attach the Kinect to a PC, use it to interpret the movements, emulate a PS3 controller using Bluetooth and use that to control the PS3.

you can play most (if not all) games that are released until now on firmware 3.55 which is good enough for many buyers.

as for buying an original game, u enjoy it in the same fashion, u appreciate it less for the big money you spent on it. However, if you like the game, buy it.
