He was here referring to the physical meaning of the world future. As in saying there is nothing called present since by the end of the sentence that will be past and what was future is present. This is not a philosophical quote, at least not purely, but incorporates the way Einstein mixed philosophy with his background in Physics and Mathematics.
On the other hand, his life really to a certain extent shows a life without planning and with a lot of spontaneous actions and words that he later regretted, so he might have meant it as the appearance of it shows. How about this quote? "All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him. " Or "All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become." Basically they imply the same meaning, the quote is by the first Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama. |
