Ronaldo accepts The Deal
Manchester United have shocked the football world after accepting an £80million offer from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo's Old Trafford future had been the subject of intense speculation since the end of the season and Real finally appear to have landed their man after being granted permission to speak with the Portugal international. United spurned the advances of the Spanish club last summer despite Ronaldo declaring he wanted to move to Madrid. But following a new world record offer and a fresh suggestion from the 24-year-old wideman that he wanted to move to Spain, United have decided to cash in on the current World and European player of the year. Real's £80million offer comes just days after they completed a £59million swoop on AC Milan for Kaka. Madrid president Florentino Perez had openly turned his attention to Ronaldo after landing the Brazil star. "Manchester United have received a world record, unconditional offer of £80million for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid," confirmed a club statement. "At Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave - and after discussion with the player's representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player. "Matters are expected to be concluded by 30 June. The club will not comment until further notice." Ronaldo has been at Old Trafford since joining United in a £12.24million deal from Sporting Lisbon in summer 2003. He has helped the Red Devils win three successive Premier League crowns, the Champions League in 2007/08, one FA Cup and two League Cups during a trophy-laden six years in Manchester. |

Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed his pride at his impending "historic" £80million transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid.
The Portuguese star is set to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms before completing his world record switch to Spain. Ronaldo has made no secret of his desire to play for Real and the 24-year-old winger is delighted that his dream is now set to become a reality. "I have had my time at Man United. It's time to look forward and £80million is quite a sum of money. This deal is historic," he said. "It's flattering when two of the top teams in the world want you to play for them. "Now I can look forward to Real Madrid and a new stage in my career. "I learned of the deal here (on holiday) in LA and heard from my people that United had accepted." Meanwhile, Ronaldo does not expect a minor hernia problem to disrupt the smooth running of his transfer. "I do not require surgery. The hernia is nothing to worry about," he added. "However, I have also been told that Madrid want to have a medical team look at me as expected."

Lyon director Bernard Lacombe insists Manchester United target Karim Benzema will still be at the Stade Gerland next season.
The 21-year-old striker has been spoken of as a possible replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford, if the Portugal international completes his anticipated £80million switch to Real Madrid. Internazionale and Real Madrid have also been linked with Benzema, but Lacombe told le Dauphine Libere: "The fax is not overheating. "Even if you should never say never in football, there is a lot of noise about nothing at this moment. "The idea is still to keep Karim for another season." Benzema's agent, Karim Djaziri, added: "Lyon don't need liquid assets and Karim wants to stay until the 2010 World Cup. On our part a departure is not on the agenda." A product of Lyon's youth academy, Benzema scored 24 goals in 37 games for the club in the 2006-07 campaign. He scored on his first appearance for France in March 2007 - a 1-0 friendly victory against Austria. |

Liverpool offered Samuel Etoo in return for Javier Mascherano
It is the second time in a week the unsettled Argentina midfielder has been linked with the European champions, following reports that Liverpool turned down a £20 million offer from the Nou Camp, adding that not even £50m would be enough. According to the Mirror, however, Pep Guardiola is prepared to test the wrath of Benitez and has made a second bid which would allow for him to offload 28-year-old Eto'o, who failed to agree to a new deal with Barca. Bayern claim United want Ribery
Manchester United are interested in signing France international Franck Ribery, according to Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea are also keen to sign the 26-year-old, who Rummenigge still believes will be a Bayern player when the new season starts in August. "We are completely relaxed and very proud that we have one of the best three players in the world under contract and that he has triggered such a huge demand in the transfer market," he told Bild. "Real have asked in person, through their president, Florentino Perez, and his adviser, Pedro Jimenez, whether we will talk to them about a deal. "We have rejected that request, because we have no intention of selling Ribery. "There is no offer from Real but there are clubs that have come to us with offers. Chelsea's bid has already been reported, and there's also Manchester United and Barcelona. "We are approaching it calmly, because we are the ones who have the power to make the decision. "I don't want to talk about sums of money because it is not in our interest. The amount is irrelevant. "There is always going to be the perception that Bayern Munich are trying to push the price up and that there is a certain value at which we'll have to accept, but I'll say it again: we want to keep Ribery. "We must do everything to make sure he stays in Munich and I am determined to do this. A player has to respect his contract, in this case until 2011." |

Reports suggest Manchester United have joined the race to sign Spain international David Villa although Valencia insist they have received no bids for the striker.
Real Madrid appear to have dropped their interest in the player but Barcelona are still believed to be keen to bring the 27-year-old to the Camp Nou. However, Valencia president Manuel Llorente told AS: "The conversations with Madrid have been paralysed since Saturday and we will now calm down and take our time to assess the situation before making any decisions. "There are other teams who are interested in Villa but for the time being there have been no more offers for the player. "I have been in charge for all of five days and we have put ourselves in the eye of the storm because everyone thinks that Valencia will sell all their players, but nothing could be further from the truth." |
