United could have Edwin van der Sar, Wayne Rooney and Ferdinand all back in action for Sunday's FA Cup third round tie against Liverpool as Sir Alex Ferguson promised to "pick the right team".

The boss is, of course, referring to changes he made to his team for last season's 1-0 third round defeat to Leeds at Old Trafford. Sir Alex does not want to make the same mistake again.

"We picked a team we thought was good enough to beat Leeds," he told reporters at Carrington on Friday. "The FA Cup is a competition that has had its shocks, and we got a shock last year. I picked the wrong team; I hope I don't pick the wrong team this time.

"I hope to have Edwin van der Sar and Wayne Rooney fit for Sunday. Rooney has been in good form lately and Edwin is obviously valuable for his experience. They both have a chance. Other than that, it's the same squad as Tuesday. Rio Ferdinand is OK, we just rested him against Stoke."

Rooney came off against West Bromwich Albion on New Year's Day having suffered an ankle injury. He returned to the field with United defending a tight 2-1 lead, and Sir Alex admits it was a risk. "It was maybe not the right thing to do in terms of being fit for Tuesday night's game. But we just hope that he's all right for Sunday."

There was also an update on Owen Hargreaves, but there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. "Hargreaves went to Germany to see a specialist to treat a hamstring injury," said Sir Alex. "There's no further update on that. He's still injured."

وقال المالك الأميركي للنادي "جون هنري": "نحن سعداء لأن كيني دالجليش قد وافق على قيادة الفريق ضد مانشستر يونايتد يوم الأحد على ملعب أولد ترافورد في كأس الاتحاد الإنكليزي بالإضافة لبقية مباريات الفريق حتى نهاية الموسم".
ورغم عدم ممارسة دالغليش لمهنة التدريب منذ عام 2002 إلا أن الإدارة وضعت كامل ثقتها فيه لإنقاذ النادي من ورطته الحالية ومواصلة مشواره الناجح في كأس الدوري الأوروبي، وأضاف جون هنري: "لم يكن كيني دالغليش مُجرد لاعب في كرة القدم، إنه أسطورة وهو أحد أنجح المدربين الذين تولى تدريب ليفربول، ونحن محظوظون لأن لدينا أسطورة ناجحة مثله".
أما رئيس النادي "توم فيرنر" فقد قال: "لا أحد يستطيع تولي تدريب الفريق في تلك الفترة إلا كيني دالغليش فلا أحد يهتم بهذا النادي الكبير مثلما هو فاعل، علينا أن نمضي إلى الأمام ونحن واثقون من خبر كيني الواسعة، وبعد انتهاء الموسم سوف نتحدث ونرى ما الذي يُمكن أن نفعله".
يذكر أن كيني دالغليش كان يعمل خلال الفترة القصيرة الماضية في قطاع اكتشاف النجوم الشباب في أكاديمية ليفربول.

وصف المدير الفني لنادي مانشستر يونايتد "سير أليكس فيرغسون" الطريقة التي عاملت بها إدارة ليفربول المدير الفني الإنكليزي المُخضرم "روي هودسون" بالطريقة غير العادلــة.
فيرغسون توقع إقالة هودسون من تدريب ليفربول قبل عدة ساعات من الإعلان الرسمي عن هذا القرار، فمن الطريقة التي تعاملت بها الإدارة الأميركية للفريق مع مدرب فولهام السابق بتهديده بالإقالة إذا لم تتحسن النتائج ووضعه تحت ضغط دائم أمور جعلته يستنبط القرار ويصف ما يحدث لهودسون بالظلم.
وأصر فيرغسون على أن المدرب صاحب الـ67 عام يَستحق معاملة أفضل من ذلك بكثير، وقال لصحيفة ميرور البريطانية: "روي لا يحتاج لتوضيح سجله كمدرب، فخبرته ومستوى أدائه معروفين في كل مكان، إنه قدم أداءاً رائعاً ولا يُمكن أن يُعامل بتلك الطريقة".

Best of enemies – King Kenny and Fergie lock horns once more


Two old foes will be reunited tomorrow in the most historic of cup competitions.

After the departure of Roy Hodgson on Saturday, Kenny Dalglish will take charge of Liverpool for the first time since 1991 and could not face a sterner test as his side take on Premier League leaders Manchester United at Old Trafford.

This mouth-watering prospect will pit Dalglish against old adversary Sir Alex Ferguson and the former will be hoping to upset the odds by progressing to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The return of Anfield great King Kenny will undoubtedly be well received in the football community, and his opponent tomorrow usually only has good things to say about his fellow Scot.

Sir Alex said: "Kenny was a tremendous player, absolutely tremendous. I would have paid to have seen him play. I loved the way he could hold the ball up and make goals as well as score them."

But mutual respect will be pushed to one side on Sunday in front of a packed house at Old Trafford and the United boss is hopeful star man Wayne Rooney will ensure the Red Devils are in the pot for the next round.

"Wayne was buzzing last week. That is why I am keen to have him in the team and why I will give him every chance to be fit,” said Ferguson.

"Many times Wayne has gone on good runs. He'd score five in a row and then maybe go three or four without scoring.

"Last year he was far more consistent and far more potent in his finishing. Hopefully last week's goal brings that back again."

Goal.com's Stefan Coerts takes a look at Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed's spending since arriving at Manchester City in August 2008.


The transfer of Bosnia-Herzegovina international Edin Dzeko from Wolfsburg to Manchester City for a reputed fee of £27 million has taken Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed's spending spree since arriving at the Citizens in the summer of 2008 to over £1 billion.

With the completion of Dzeko's transfer on Thursday morning, City have now spent in excess of £300m on players. The former Wolfsburg striker is the second most expensive transfer in the history of the Eastlands outfit after the previous capture of Robinho in the summer of 2008 for £32.5m.

The 40-year-old Mansour bin Zayed paid £210m for the initial take-over of City and then spent a further £20m on stadium and training ground improvements, thus taking the amount of money spent on the Premier League side to £570m.

However, the biggest expense for Mansour bin Zayed so far have been the wages for new players and those on existing contracts. Well over £500m has left the Sheikh's bank accounts in the past two-and-a-half year to pay the players and other staff under contract at the Citizens.

وقال انشيلوتي : " لن أستغرب في حال فقدت عملي هنا فهذه هي كرة القدم ، بالنسبة للبعض فالمفاجأة أنني ما زلت هنا".

وأضاف " علاقتي بالمالك تساعدني هذه الأيام الصعبة ، لكن المطلوب منا أن ننظر إلى الواقع ونتعامل معه".

على صعيد أخر ، قالت صحيفة " Sunday Mirror " أن تشيلسي يفكر بطلب نجدة غوس هيدينك لتدريبه في حال اضطر لإقالة أنشيلوتي بسبب تراجع النتائج.

وسوف تكون الاستعانة بالمدرب الهولندي ليست الأولى فقد استخدمه الملياردير الروسي في السابق بعد إقالة البرازيلي سكولاري ، وتبقى المهمة الصعبة إقناع الاتحاد التركي بجعل المدرب يعمل مع تشيلسي بالإضافة إلى عمله مع المنتخب التركي.
